Hi all,

I would like to do a fresh install of SnowLeopard on my MBP, I just need a fresh install as the system seems bogged down abit and I dont need half the things I had on it.

I have backed up everything of an external HDD/Time Machine but have a couple of questions before I go to reinstall the OS.

-How do I backup and restore Mail without it downloading all my emails from the Gmail server? As I only want to restore it as it I have it at the moment.

-Whats the best way to restore ITunes?

These are the two important things for me as Im not too worried about the applications, I can reinstall them later. I dont want to do a full restoring from Time machine as I dont need half the things on it.

Any help would be brilliant, thanks.

Ok, the process is simple.

1. Close down all apps,
2. backup to TM (use the backup now option)
3. Insert the snowleopard DVD
4. boot of it
5. select that you want to restore from TM option.
6. sit back for an hour as it installs SL and then the updates

TM will backup mail and iTunes unless you've made any changes to their configuration.

I've done this before.

All sorted, the email thing was on IMAP and was collecting all my (2000+ emails) off the server, switched to POP instead, doesnt download all the folders either.
