hi guys,

just done a nice clean format and re-install of leopard (few things were really starting to go awry so needed a spring clean) - anyway, i have the time machine backup of before which i can go into and see all the files (~/Library/Mail/) but i can't work out what needs copying across to restore all my mail messages...

i copied across the folder names POP - *username-*server but that didn't import the messages...

i re-setup my accounts manually so thats not a problem, i just want all the original emails back in their respective places...

any ideas?

This is why I love IMAP. Just input your username and passwords and all your mail is back how it was before.

How about File > Import Mailboxes

I've restored mail fine - I did a complete Leopard reinstall from scratch recently.. there's a couple of directories you need to restore. from ~Preferences and ~Library.

Then when you restart it will rebuild the indices etc. The moan, and reload again. At which point it's all ok.

I've also restored iCal, AddressBook and iTunes in the same way.

not everyone has access to IMAP, though. IME, it's not normally an option on shared hosting and you have to settle for POP.
