Not sure if this will be any help-EasyBCD
I've just used it to remove Vista boot options after a failed repair install. It does give options to add other OS's, but not sure it will do what you want.

Booting off the Vista DVD and choosing 'Repair', then 'Fix Startup Issues' (or similar).

Might have to do it a couple of times (it only fixes the first problem it encounters, so if there are multiple problems it needs running multiple times!), but it'll restore the Vista Bootloader.

If it doesn't add the previous windows install, you can use the tool like the one above ^.

hey guys finally after 20 mins or so got Vista to boot but XP says NLDR or what ever is missing. Now wouldnt Vista put the boot files for XP too?

I got XP cd out and did fixmbr and fixboot but no joy

any ideas?

1 more thing, any one with XP and Vista on same patition, can you copy the boot.ini (XP) info for me so i can paste into the XP boot.ini?

thanks

ps this is what i have now

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=Opt

If you're using the Vista bootloader, boot.ini is irrelevant. You need to use bcdedit, or one of the tools to help you (with a graphical interface) like VistaBootPRO or EasyBCD.
