I have an old PC, which just want to put the max ram in. Current spec is

Foxconn G41MXE MATX Motherboard
Q6600 Core 2 Quad CPU
2x2GB Corsair XMS3 1333mhz DDR3

Everywhere i search says its supports 8gb RAM, i even tried Crucial memory scanner which says it supports 8gb.

I have tried 2x4gb of Corsair Vengeance 1600 , 2x4gb HyperX 1600, 2x4gb HyperX blue 1333

It wont boot as far as bios, no beeps just blank screen and max fans, this is the same a single or both module.

Its not a real big issue, i just use this PC for retro bits and bobs. but i just wanted it maxed out.. any ideas?

is it a BIOS issue, need latest for larger memories. I think this might be hard with this board im sure it would need some kind of win98 boot floppy for a bios flash

Yeah, seems 4GB is your limit.

Crucial is not infallible- I ordered some ram for a mate's laptop a while back. Crucial checker told me I needed 1600MHz. Got it, wouldn't boot. Turns out it's 1066MHz...

EDIT okay found another site which states maximum of 8GB. Possibly ignore this post.

I give up, its just a badly supported motherboard. I imagine its actually been pulled from another branded PC as an OEM board. The latest board with a floppy , IDE, controller that takes more than 4gb ram is either AM3+ and people seem to charge a lot for the 6core CPU, or socket 1366 and thats the reverse CPU cheap , motherboards RIP off.

First gen core like Asus P7H55-M have IDE, but they're picky about memory when going past 4GB (seems to be the size of the memory chips that's the issue). There are some 2nd/3rd gen boards with IDE too, like DQ67OW and ASRock ones.

I think you can buy a PCI-E expansion card, but from what I read, they have problems if used for a boot drive.

yes but they dont have a floppy controller, now of course i dont really need any of this stuff working, but i think its quite nerdy have a 5.25" floppy, IDE DVD, IDE Iomega Zip, thats all fully working in windows 10. I even have the GTX260 dual output with one Svideo going to a CRT TV

I know my old p7p55-M needed low density memory to be able to run 2 4gb dimms and get the full 8gb showing.

So 4gb dimms with 16x256mb memory chips on to get the full 8gb as the high density 512/8 wouldn't recognize more than 4gb.

I have tried 2x4gb of Corsair Vengeance 1600 , 2x4gb HyperX 1600, 2x4gb HyperX blue 1333

Do these have 16 memory chips on?

They used to put Foxconns in cheapo Acer pc's ... load of cr*p really
foxconn make boards for loads of other companies like microsoft sony apple amazon nokia nintendo etc they arent a micky mouse company

the boards in pre built pcs do what they are supposed to do and nothing more or less than that. :)

According to wiki As of 2012, Foxconn factories manufactured an estimated 40% of all consumer electronics sold worldwide. :o

you might be able to find another board that is compatible cheaply on ebay or somewhere like that ! facebook gumtree etc ! :)
