The people of Arcadia, Missouri are forever changed when their deceased loved ones suddenly start to return. An 8-year-old American boy wakes up alone in a rice paddy in a rural Chinese province with no idea how he got there. Details start to emerge when the boy, who calls himself Jacob, recalls that his hometown is Arcadia, and an Immigration agent, Martin Bellamy, takes him there. The home he claims as his own is occupied by an elderly couple, Harold and Lucille Garland, who lost their son Jacob more than 30 years ago. While they look different, young Jacob recognizes them as his parents. Those closest to the family try to unravel this impossible mystery, including Sheriff Fred Garland, whose wife Barbara drowned 30 years ago while trying to save Jacob. But this boy who claims to be the deceased Jacob knows secrets about his own death that no one else knows -- secrets that Fred’s daughter, Gail, will begin to investigate and discover to be true.

I thought the first episode was really good so let's see how this pans out.

I'm sorry to say - not a patch on Les Revenants (eng. "The Returned"/"Rebound" depending on market) upon which Resurrection is based. Purchased the idea but they didn't understand any part of it at all. Just about everything that made original series good is just gone. And it's all over the place at the moment.

Why would you want something exactly the same if it is already out there to watch?

That's the big question for any of these "remakes" as a whole idea. Why remake Broen into The Bridge US and The Tunnel if there was nothing wrong with the scandinavian series and you don't make it better? The only reason to do any remake, is if you can improve on or at least match the quality of the original. House Of Cards US. Shameless US. Battlestar Galactica.

My beef with Resurrection is not that it isn't "the same", but that it is so far removed from the concept as an adaptation of the story, that it just doesn't make sense for it to be an adaptation of the story. You don't buy a script/story/idea to leave everything that made you buy that license in the first place, out of it. The Office US, wouldn't be The Office if they adapted it as "shot in front of the live audience multicamera workplace ensemble drama about two teenage women working as waitresses in suburban diner", right?

Resurrection as a remake of the Les Revenants idea, doesn't seem to understand "the returned" concept from the very first scene. I don't know how something this bland and meh progressed from pilot stage to network order, but it needs to reboot mid air extra pronto, Sundance Channel is about to start airing original series in US.

It's not a remake of "The Returned" series, it's based on a book called "The Returned" by Jason Mott....

Quote from "Slate"
n sum, because this is confusing: Resurrection (ABC) is an adaptation of The Returned (a novel). The Returned (Sundance) is an adaptation of They Came Back (a French movie), and will soon be adapted as an English-language series that will either be called They Came Back or The Returned.

It is confusing indeed. But turns out you are right, it goes somewhat like this:
- 2003 Robin Campillo and Brigitte Tijou write the script to "Les Revenants" (the movie)
- 2004 Robin Campillo makes "Les Revenants" (the movie) (released in the UK as "The Returned", released in US as "They Came Back")
- 2012 Fabrice Gobert and his team writes "Les Revenants" (the Canal+ TV series) (broadcasted in the UK as "The Returned", broadcasted in US as "The Returned", known in some territories as "Ghosts" or "Rebound") based on Campillo's "Les Revenants/The Returned" (the movie)
- 2013 winter - Seth Patrick (of the "Reviver" fame) is contracted by Pan Macmillan/Tor publishers to adapt "Les Revenants" (the Canal+ TV series) as series of English language books under title of "The Returned" with release date of 2014.
- 2013 winter - Paul Abbott (of "Shameless" the TV series fame) and Freemantle Media acquire rights to UK remake of "The Returned" (the movie and Canal+ TV series)
- 2013 spring - debutant Jason Mott pitches his unpublished idea titled "The Returned" borrowing heavily from plot/idea of "The Returned" (the movie and Canal+ TV series) to ABC. Claims the idea came to him in a dream.
- 2013 late spring - A&E acquire rights to US remake of "The Returned" (the movie and Canal+ TV series)
- 2013 early summer - ABC makes a pilot under working title of "The Returned" (based on book by Mott)
- 2013 early autumn - Mott releases book "The Returned" with Harlequin Books. Book is known on several foreign markets as "The Returnees", to not mistake with upcoming books by Seth Patrick.
- 2013 late autumn - ABC signs off TV series based on the pilot "The Returned" based on "The Returned" (the book by Jason Mott) but because of A&E "The Returned" (the movie and Canal+ TV series) adaptation deal in place and Sundance TV broadcast rights to "The Returned" (original Canal+ series) they change title to "Resurrection"
- 2014 ABC starts broadcasting "Resurrection"
- 2014 v0n @ forums.overclockers.co.uk is confused

I watched it right after the pilot of "Believe" and this was in a whole different league - I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Both do look ok shows although we do seem to have all these tv shows with xmen type powers or zombies....

Just like Touch which got cancelled fast I feel resurrection/believe/helix will last a season ;)

Just watched the first series....

Was OK but utterly disappointing, nonsensical and predictable towards the end. EP08 was just lol.....

Looking forward to Series 2 - but i think it will stink.

Did this get canned or naturealy end after seaon 2 ?

I just watched the second episode of season 2, so it obviously didn't get canned.

The first two have been very good and the season starts with a very neat twist to make things more interesting too.

looks even more intriguing with the historic evidence that turned up - I have absolutely no idea where this is going but I am enjoying the ride. :)
