Resuscitate my old P55 & get started on haswell too?

Brethren,

I have a p55 based machine (i7-860) which is |-| far away from giving up the ghost; it needs some new memory - 16gb of it (big photoshops).

Mobo is a gigabyte ga-p55-ud3: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3164

I don't want to chuck £100+ at a short term fix when I have a haswell machine in my less-immediate near future. Can someone please suggest a kit which is going to tide me over for the p55 mobo but which will also not hold me back if I transplant it to a haswell build in a month or so? Thank you all :)

edit: no overclocking going on!

I had a ga-p55a-ud4 and used 4x4gb g.skill 2133mhz. The motherboard had no problem with it and my i7 860 had a pretty decent imc and allowed me to do 2640mhz on the memory.

Suffice to say now that I have moved over to ivy bridge my ram is not holding me back.

Any kit will be fine moving from p55 to z87, it depends on a) budget and b) How fast do you need your ram to be?

Also, I am unsure as to whether your motherboard supports 8gb dimms, not that it matters too much unless your overclocking (which your not :)). 4x4gb kits will work out cheaper.

Personally I would buy this kit:

If you didn't want to spend that much then the kit Panyan posted is also a good option and will potentially be easier to get running on your current setup without needing to mess around in the bios.

Thank you both for the sanity check :) I have gone with the teamgroup option; good to know I'm not hurting anything on a newer architecture by catering to my more immediate needs :)
