Retail cpu Amd

Looking at AMD Phenom cpu retail, does this come with a standard cpu cooler as well?.

Yep it will come with the retail HSF although i'd recommend a third party cooler myself.

if only for the noise levels (they cool actually cool quite well) the stock coolers are damn loud

Yeh in fairness the amd stock coolers aren't bad, certainly a lot better than intel's thats for sure. I'd still be looking for a different cooler though

I still use the stock cooler at 3.8, loads at ~50C

The quad core coolers are quite good (the ones with heatpipes). I wouldn't overclock on any of the other ones though!
