is it better to find HL1 on CD as opposed to buying it on steam?

cos the steam version of HL1 doesnt seem to include CS or TFC (from the description), i was wondering if buying the CD version gives you access to CS/TFC as well. I used to have a disc but unfortunately lost it and someone else nicked my CD key and registered it

Grab Half-Life Generations 3 retail, can be had for £9. Comes with Blue Shift and Opposing Force as well, which I thoroughly enjoyed, not as much as HL1 but still great additions to the series.

I bought HL1 aaages ago and the cd-key was in use, same thing happend to a mate. Wouldn't go near a coppy these days just it get off steam you tight arse:D

There is the Half life Generations 3 pack which is all the old half life 1 game and expansions. Found for £50new which is silly.

The half life 1 anthology which is the most recent release published by ea which i found for £40, again is silly but these are the only new releases with all the expansions.

Lastly there is the Sierra best sellers version which is only half life itself but found for £5new.

But rereading your post, you should be able to download TFC and CS1.6 for free if you have half life itself i believe, TFC used to be installed automaticly on the old GOTY edition of half life, but how to download CS these days i dont know, sorry.

I had Half-Life Geneartions 3 as well bought from a large etailor. I didn't use it immediately with steam but when I did, the key was in use. I beleiev people managed to generate the keys meaning a lot of people were unable to use the keys with steam. Valve did offer a scheme where you pay $10 and send the original manual to get a new key, but obviously wasnt worth it at the time. Its a shame because my copy of CS 1.5 is useless now.

If you just get Half Life then you should be able to download the on line games like TFC, CS, HL-DM etc for free off steam - at least that would be my understanding of it.

I would get this off steam

I'm fairly sure that when I registered my retail HL on Steam back in the day it gave me all the HL-related games for free. I guess it's changed since then?

Yup that is how it works, bung in a HL / Blueshift key and you will get:

HL
OpFor
BlueShift
TFC
and a load of other bits n bobs.

Opposing Force CD-keys cannot be registered through Steam. Opposing Force was included in a retail Half-Life package. The Half-Life CD-key included in the package will unlock all of the games in that package, including Opposing Force.

the Steam Half-Life 1 Anthology doesn't include CS though. really loathe to pay extra for a game I bought ages ago, what can you do though eh...

Argh i want HL1 CD, but if i can't find it online i will buy it through steam

Is there any HL1 episodes? like HL2?

I got HL2 and EP1 + EP 2

but i havnt played EP 1 + 2 yet, i want to play HL 1 and then HL 2 again first

Nope it goes:

hl-hl2-ep1-ep2

There's opposing force and there's blue shift but they are unofficial games that go parallel with hl1...

Half Life 1 really is something special. Its been a number of years since ive played it through, but its the absolute pinnacle of my Single player gaming career :)
