Your Vista Upgrade license will, in effect, replace your XP license. You're not legally entitled to run both side-by-side - by using the upgrade version you forfeit the previous version of Windows, I believe.

This isn't quite the case. An upgrade license doesn't replace the qualifying product license, it's just an extension of the rights to include a new version. You still can't run both side-by-side, but you are still restricted the qualifying product restrictions.

I would adivse to be very cautious when buying cheap editions of Vista. There is very little profit in selling Windows for a retailer, Gibbo will tell you this, so having a lot of the price could mean its dodgy at the least.

Edit: And christ guys, I leave the forums for a few days and everyone starts bickering....calm it down a bit, it's only licensing chat ;)

Don't worry, I'm technically disabled in the typing dept (I have some fingers, and joints missing - which is quite another thread!) but, my spelling is still crap. ;)

The point is, you've done nothing but whine (and send the thread completely O/T where, it really was'nt needed) over a bloomin Licence question!

Now, please, SHUT UP for chrissake! ;) :D - I'm often this blunt, don't take offence.

I'm more than happy to reside on your ignore list if you dislike what I type & the same applies to any others. :)

Back on topic, I've changed boards, processors and other major components with my two OEM XP's without issue, I sincerely hope things hav'nt changed under Vista. :(

Yes microsoft has meant to cracked down hard on this with OEM vista....Change your motherboard with OEM vista and then you need to buy a new vista key or another copy of vista...

Well, thats my O.S. upgrade plans shelved for a good while yet then!

:)

Just buy the retail version of the OS you actually require and then sit back.
A license for the life of the OS and even when MS stop supporting it (in 5 or 6 years time) you can still continue to use it if you like.

A single purchase for an OS that you can use, reuse and transfer to each computer as you upgrade for x years.
It's actually a bargain so many people refuse to see.
But hay, I didn't start this post with the letters "M$" and then proceed to trash the company - so this will fall on deaf ears too.

The retail version you get a DVD with a few complimentary mints.

The OEM comes on 4,000 floppy disks.

Ah, so it's not just in GD that you post all sarcastic! :p ;)

Gave me a good chuckle though - "Can I order Vista OEM please, with next day delivery." "Yes sir, that'll be £500 delivery for the three dump trucks full of disks." :D

u think that i was O/T.. i must laugh..

nearly all theses threads have none related posts... not just mine

and more to the point if a person says something about me, of course i would say something back... even u would too...

example, see the above post.

What are you on about? He's just saying the joke was funny.

Christ, seriously, just lighten up. A thread is always going to contain a variety of responses, deal with it. Ignore the posts and stick the people who do it on your ignore list or something.

Wonder if that's a limited time offer, like when OcUK decided to off-load their retail packs at a great saving.

Probably be over by the time I find it.
