I have some comments about this article. Firstly the author wants to store 1TB in the cloud  Unless he has a leased line I dont see how that would be practical.

IMO the best way will be to have a home server locally (eg a QNAP) and Owncloud. Then Skydrive for important documents (encrypted with Truecrypt before they are uploaded).

Any thoughts?

I recently got a Synology D413j and put 4x 3TB drives in and that does the home server job very nicely, some good android apps for streaming my music etc as well. I've not tried it yet but apparently you can put a USB TV Tuner in it as well so you can watch recorded TV wherever you want! :D

Super simple to configure as well :)

You dont need a leased line for the cloud to work  Once it is backed up primarily, only the changes will be uploaded.

Personally a decent NAS that is backed up to an external drive is the best way to go about it I have found, I will look at a cloud backup solution in the future but the prices need to drop for large amounts of data

It would take ages though even with a fibre connection. Plus Amazon charge for access to the data?

I would hope most people do large backups during the night/during the day when they dont need to worry about the time it would take.

Who said anything about amazon, plenty of other cloud providers out there
