Well, had to give up using my Boogie today, my skin just does not agree with it. Thought it was just perhaps a short lived reaction to the surface that would subside with time but unfortunately not.

Skin just flares up when I use it with small water blisters. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction but seeing as I am not allergic to anything it seems as if it's just the texture. The large nature of the surface means parts of my hands rub on it that normally would not with mouse/keyboard usage.

Mainly affects my mouse hand but even the small movements against it on the lower part of my typing hand causes a reaction.

Shame as it's an excellent pad otherwise :(

Anyone else get a reaction? One person made mention of something similar on the product page review but Googling about reveals nothing else.

Ive been using one for 3 years and not had a problem at all, its a shame your havign a problem with it because like you said they are excellent pads.

Not had a problem myself after about 2 years use.

Have you tried cleaning it? (Cool wash in washing machine.) Could just be something the top layer has been treated with.

Was wondering is this pad made of a material that allows it to be cut down to size without the edges fraying and ruining it?

i've seen a lot of people in numerous threads on here saying that they have successfully chopped them down without any problems. if i needed to cut mine i would without hesitiation, any signs of fraying and i'd simply try and use a very hot knife/flat edge and try reseal any frayed ends.

i'd give that a try first mate before ditching the mat altogether, although maybe you've already given it a go?

Steelpad 4S user here, I'm weird and don't like texture of fabrics. Metal is smooth and feels good on my hands, no allergies here.

Maybe OP should ditch the girl hands/arms and get some man spec appendages :p

I jest, my Mrs has reactions to some types of food (bowel and skin) and it ain't a nice thing to live with. Try the cool wash if ya going to chuck it anyway. Mine began peeling at the edges right away, so I reckon if I washed it in the machine it would fall to bits!

I didnt like my boogie bug either, it wasnt a skin reaction, but the thing did keep pulling the hairs off my arm - it was so annoying i rolled it up the same evening and have never used it again :(

kept pulling the hairs of your arms?? my arms are hairy as a chimps and i've never had that problem. sure you didn't spill summat on it?? :p

I have a Boogie Bug along with a Roccat SOTA mouse mat (that sits on top of the boogie). The boogie bug cushions the desk for keyboard / general working, however the Roccat SOTA mouse mat is far superior for mouse tracking compared to the Boogie.

You could try using another mat on top of the boogie and this would protect your skin.

My Sota has developped a bulge (naughty). I might try that and put the boogie underneath. The Boogie surface is more 'tacky', the Sota is more teflon-like and glidy. Never found a cloth pad that was really slick.
