retro computer help, anyone for MSX?

just got one of these MSX computers, giving it a clean and setting it up now. anyone got one? can give some tips? things to look for out for? good games?

The first two Metal Gear games were for the MSX. Although in Japanese only I think

i think it got a rare euro release? another famous game on the msx was snatcher! kudos to yamaha anyway, they got the manual for it in pdf form on their website, hows that for customer support for a 20+ year old computer

First one got a US release but I think that may have only been the NES port, not the original MSX version. Second one hasn't been released outside of Japan at all (although will be very soon as part of MGS3:Subsistence)

I had one of these, it was a great machine. Look for some of the konami cart games like nemesis 1+2, awesome games in their day. The lack of hardware scrolling didn't do it any favours though unfortunately.

euro version i think, shudder to think of any kind of price for it! sadly mine is an msx 1 rather than 2, its nearly 2 spec, just a bit short of vram

I had one of the toshiba ones vanpeebles, paid £49 for it brand new

. I had a few cart games but I always came back to nemesis. F1 spirit was great, top down 2 player racer. There was a version of pacman called Oh No!, which was identical to the arcade but it had speech when you died (said Oh No!).Knightmare was another great game, top down vertical greek mythology shooter with a little knight character. Some of the cart games are highly collectible nowadays though so i'd imagine you would have to pay through the nose for them

I had an MSX when they were first released and got another one at some point. Cracking system!

Get some of the Konami cartridges if you can.

I had a Toshiba and then another one later but I can't remember which it was. I also bought the keyboard you have in that pic, great stuff! I remember spending all my Christmas money buying it

i never had one of those, nor even heard of one before, but it looks cool

from those pics it looks to be in great condition

love the huge clunky buttons on the mouse :eek:

i had a Dragon 32 when i was a kid but don't remember much about it

after a quick google i can see why lol it had a 0.9mhz cpu
