Retro console and games thread

oooh thats nice! how much it set you back?

Some might say I need my head examining, more than a PS4 but worth every penny, I have had such an awesome time with it and been a big Neo fan since the 90s. I could never afford one until now and loving it!

A combination of nostalgia and a growing disillusionment with modern gaming such as no ownership, DLC, seasons passes, locked content, digital only, trophies etc. I'd take the Neo over the PS4 any day of the week  and guess which one will still work in another 15-20 years?

Well I finally have it, a consolised Neo Geo MVS, the Omega! Created by Quan at Arcade Works in the states, it contains the 1999 MV-1C SNK 1-slot motherboard, stereo sound mod, NEO BIOS MASTA and Unibios 3.2.

I have been after one for about 2 years and finally pulled the trigger about a month ago. The multicart is nice to sample the games and have something to blast on while I save the pennies to buy my favourites. I have been playing this all night and haven't had this much fun gaming in years.

Awesome pick up there mate! I'm itching to pick up a MVS board to consolise myself! Just doing a bit of research. You need to purchase a Neo Stick mind!

What games are you enjoying on it? My favourite is Blazing Star!

Yeah a stick is defiantly on the cards for sure. My retro habit will have to be on hold now as funds are severely depleted, not to mention I'm off to Japan in a couple of weeks, ok maybe I can sneak a couple of purchases in whilst there ;)

I really love Kof 98 and Shock troopers hence why I have the legit carts, kof 98 was so filthy though I had to wash the PCBs in the sink to get layers of grime off them. They look like new now and work perfectly. On the multicart I'm a big fan of Sengoku 3, Twinkle Star Sprites, Neo Drift and of course all the Metal Slugs. I think my next legit MVS cart will defiantly have to be Windjammers as sadly its not on any of the multicarts.

I need a scaler to use it with my SLG3000 at some stage as well.

Stein, are you looking to buy a full boxed version for collection as well as playing purposes or just want a copy as cheap as possible to play?

The reason I ask is I have a spare disc only copy, I don't mind sending it to someone for free if they are genuinely looking for some retro enjoyment.

Seriously!? Blimey that's very generous of you!

I am just looking to play it as I haven't actually got any Saturn games at all! Really regret not getting it as part of a bundle but at least its taught me for future Retro coinsooe purchases :-) nights is one of those cult games I've always wanted to try.

Thanks so much, shall i email you to your trust email?

Yeah i'm a bit funded out at the moment hahaha. I am just waiting on my RGB Amp to arrive for my PC Engine, then i need to pick up some HuCards for it :-(

Wow, Japan! It's always been a dream of mine to go, but i doubt it will happen for me anytime now in the foreseeable future. Enjoy your trip and take plenty of pictures, and no doubt a few retro purchases will be made hahaha :D

Yeah go for it and I will post it tomorrow.

EDIT: Apologies, I am forgetting I took it to work (thought it would be best place for when ready to send it to someone....) so its sitting in my drawer there and I am on holiday this week, I can post it first thing Monday morning.

Anyone going to the play expo in Manchester this year?

http://www.playexpo.net/

I am, I was meant to be going last year but switched jobs/moved home around the same time and gave up my ticket. Now that I live about 15 mins from where they are holding it.

is that mario bros an early 80's version?
I think it probably came in the box with the NES. '89 or '90 I think I got it.

I've had a quick look around EBay and was a bit surprised at some of the prices I saw.
I always said they'd be worth something one day when my parents were making noises about disposing of my old games.Looking forward to the 'I told you so' moment:D

I ended up getting this earlier today...

A colour that shouldn't work, yet does! Fits right in :) I can retire my black one for now.

Came with 5 games 1 'spice' controller, 1 wavebird cables and a power converter as it still had the Japanese plug.

Was proper filthy, given the console and controller a good clean and put one of my current wavebirds with it for the time being, until I clean up the new one!

Gah, it's so frustrating when you don't have a memory card for a console. When I moved out my parents house I forgot to take any PS2 cards :(

Brings back memories of going to your mates house and forgetting the second controller or memory card, trip wasted :p

Dead jealous, always been tempted by the Omega, maybe 1 more blown MVS board and I might cave in. :p
BTW how's that joypad handle? Still using my AES and CD control sticks.

Ah, good to know. What did you pay for it, if you don't mind me asking? :)
I assume it won't play UK games?

I paid £17 for it, seems fair I think!

It seems to have been region modded already, so its played the pal games it came with. If I flick the wee switch it boots in Japanese but I have no ntscj games to put in it.
