Retro console and games thread

I tried to mod my Megadrive for 60hz as Sonic is 50hz is just garbage but just ended up with a rolling screen.

Any ideas what I did wrong? I just cut the jumper that the guides suggested as I have no interest in 50hz compatibility.

You using a RGB scart cable? I would install the switches as some games have region lock. PAL Streets of Rage 2 would refuse to run on a machine set to 60hz. You would need to start up in 50hz then switch to 60.

Received my copy of Resident Evil 2 on Saturday but didn't get to play it till today as I went out. I've not played this in a couple of years but I sailed through on my 1st go! Played on Normal difficulty and I honestly don't remember the game being that easy as a kid. I was stocked up with the upgraded Magnum for the final boss fight (Birkin) and the souped-up Shotgun. Did it in 3 hours and 17 minutes with only 3 saves, was well chuffed.

Can't believe how much stuff about this game by brain retained from so many years ago, I can barley remember what happened last week!

Will be doing Claire B tomorrow, supposedly it's meant to be much harder but we'll see. ;)

Good man, awesome result there! I played this game to death when it first came out, I remember having the US import on the PS1 and got to play it months before all my friends at school did

I recently picked up the Dreamcast version and blasted through it with Leon, although I was nowhere near your time, I'm very rusty at it :( I remember back in the day beating scenario B with an S rank and unlocking the Gatling Gun, good times!

I would do the full mod.

Some games don't like being started in 60, but will run in 60 if started in 50.

Some are perfect from go at 60.

Some don't like it at all, from start or when playing.

Install the switches, gives you a chance to see how it will work.

Can't imagine it's worth much more than £10, probably less, normal grey cart I presume?

Everyone and their mothers owned OOT, MM on the other hand is worth a bit more :).

Mate... I can still finish all games including RPGs like A Link to the Past and Golden Axe Warrior that I used to play as a kid without thinking about it, I'm sure a there's a level of muscle memory comes back into the hands when playing old games, as I can koopa bounce of several koopas without trying.

But now a days.. if I don't play a game for more than two weeks, I can't even remember the controls! I have loads of half finished games on my PS3 like darksiders 2 and dishonored that I don't have the foggiest wants happening.

That's why when I play Street Fighter now a days, I stick with Ryu, I'm not actually playing the game, I'm just using muscle memory to bust out combos..

Ah... old age..

Just did Claire B and got a B ranking. :(

Took me 3:51:30, messed about loads though and I was lost for about half an hour haha!

I don't know what it is but I just have so much more fun playing older games or games that I grew up with than new releases these days.
