Retro console and games thread

I will always preach the saturn is a retro must have tbh

Gamecube wise some great games sometimes overlooked are:

Zoocube
Viewtiful Joe
Warioware
Godzilla destroy all monsters (funny as 4 player)
Monkey ball games (just AWESOME)
Puyo pop fever
Batman vengeance
1080 avalanche
R Racing
PACMAN Vs
Eternal darkness

Need to dig through my lot again. ...sure there are more

Just managed to snag a hori Dead or Alive 4 360 arcade stick boxed for 25 quid too....whooo!

Apparently works fine with pc too which is nice

finished my boxed collection, yay

snip

Impressive.

Indeed! Looked on ebay and seems you can buy replacement faceplates etc so i may do that, they may not be original not sure but i cant stand the smokey house yellow look :D

I may need to look into saturn at some point!

Any hidden gamecube gems? I also have mario sunshine and animal crossing that i picked up months ago in anticipation!

Thats really impressive congrats! I think i need to set a collecting goal too, Must feel good to have the lot!

I've got a few at the moment.

All the Final Fanatasy games that appeared on any PlayStation hardware. Then maybe extend it to other systems too.

The HD remakes for PS3. And all of the PS3 PAL exclusives. Now seems as good a time as any as most stuff is dirt cheap.

All the R Type games.

If I win the lottery then maybe all the games in the Aleste series.

I have recently sold my ps3 but they didnt want the games! So have a fair few exclusives and maybe a few hd remakes. I have all the uncharteds (uncharted 3 is in a special book like case), mgs4, killzine 3 in steel book, god of war 1 and 2 hd collection and some others feel free to message me if you are interested in any!

Yea i need to pick a thing really! Nice to have a goal!

Anyone else's white consoles going yellow? I thought I'd have a go at sorting my Japanese Saturn out today. Last night I took this pic of it - you can see the original colour in the CD drive recess compared to the rest:

Thought I'd try the CD drive lid first. After a few hours with Jerome Russell Bblonde cream peroxide brushed onto it and leaving it in the sun wrapped in clingfilm, this is what I've got:

Pretty impressive. I'll do the rest of it tomorrow and then get my Dreamcasts and my nastily yellowed American SNES sorted if all goes well.

Thought you might have they are sort of essential! No problem, probably end up just ebaying them as a lot just dont know about postage costs on such a thing

Most games cost £1.27 to post, then you've got 10% eBay fees and around 3% in PayPal fees on the total sale price. Including postage. In other words you need to sell any game for around £3 delivered to clear £1.

The MM maybe be a better bet or even trading them in at CEX or Game.

Looks good, but I read that they go yellow again over time.

Yeah, I just left it in direct sunlight, probably 3 hours or so to get that but it wasn't overly hot today. Tomorrow's meant to be a nice day so I'll prep the rest of the shell up and see if I get any issues with it drying out. I guess the trickiest bit is getting the cream applied properly - I just made sure I'd washed it all before doing anything then an old toothbrush to smear the cream off. I've got a feeling the entire Saturn is going to rinse one bottle but I guess at £1.70 or so, it's no big deal.

I'm sure it probably will go yellow again but will be interesting to see how long it lasts. I'm not even too sure how it went this yellow in the first place to be honest as it's spent most of its life in its box wrapped in a black bin bag stuffed up in the loft.

Whats the best bet for picture quality for gamecube? I understand cables for it are silly money? Playing on a crt trinitron tv. Or would a bc wii be better?

To be honest I'd play it on the wii, you can get an unofficial component cable for a couple of quid, which will make the game look good on a modern TV (and fill the screen properly) when you run it at 480p not i.

Here's some pictures for comparison, not great ones because taking pictures of screens on a phone isn't the best.

But from a personal point of view, having seen them side by side, I'd say get an RGB SCART from retro gaming cables and play on the Trintron.

My Wii is connected via component and set to 480p and I still think the GC on a CRT TV via RGB is a cleaner image. Unless there are some other settings on the Wii for GameCube games I'm not using.

Thanks for the advice, i was under the impression it was hard work to get rgb out of a gc! Must have been miss informed! I shall look it up

You might be thinking of the GC component cable that uses the Digital AV out and outputs 480p, those cost a fortune.

But from what I remember most PAL games can't take advantage of it. Or at least that's the way I'm remembering stuff I've read on the subject.

I've just double checked the Wii settings and made sure when I started the GC game that that 60hz mode was selected. When I did that my LED TV changed resolutions to suit and I still think the game looked better on the CRT via RGB than via the Wii via component on an LED.

I also took my AV receiver out of the equation by connecting the Wii directly to the TV.

This website produces as similar image comparison to mine, so I'm pretty sure I've got it all set up correctly.

I see someone has a nice collection of the master system 1 plus with a ton of stuff up for sale

just wish I had £300, looks like a collectors dream

Anyone use a hama 100s switch? Am i right in thinking all 3 ports out put at rgb so long as its hooked up to the tvs rgb slot with a rgb cable?

A silver one for sale near me but the labeling on the top says vcr1 vcr2 and the 3rd says vcr3/sat/rgb so i was worried only this one would be rgb?

I use one, and yes it does output RGB as you described.

It was recommended on here and I can't see any image degradation between using it and connecting to the TV directly.
