Retro console and games thread

had a look on Facebook, cant find anything, no idea which groups to look for
I know some of you look on FB, can you help

thanks

Try 'Retro for Sale'. Lots of great stuff on there, but the people selling are knowledgable and will want top dollar.

I get my best results from local buy/sell groups, but takes regular observation to find anything, although you can set up alerts for keywords like 'nintendo', 'sega' etc

OK time for some hardware from my Thursday night haul;

Update IV

Some real highlights of the entire pickup. We have a boxed Sega Mega Drive 2, boxed is damaged but acceptable.

Then we have a lovely Mega Drive 2 (separate from the boxed one) and a Mega CD 2, the first Mega CD I've ever owned!

A lonesome Mega Drive MK1, but a timeless classic. I'll be moving this on however as I have a Japanese Mega Drive 1 en-route from Japan ($15 boxed!)

And to round off this batch, we have a Boxed PAL Dreamcast and a whole bunch of controllers, VMUs and Rumble Paks in varying condition. The Box for this sis very creased as the innards have been removed and the former owner kept the console and all the extra accessories in the console box!

I already have a PAL & JP Dreamcast, so this will be sold.

Thats all for now, more to post in the morning! have a good one.

You mean some are greedy and selling for how much THEY think the item is worth compared to how much it ACTUALLY is worth.

I see my local charity shops are getting like this too which is a shame.

Part of the problem, no matter where you're looking, is eBay's price is the benchmark they all go by. The problem with that is most don't take into account fees and postage. The other is they look at listed prices, not sold listings. The price difference between those two can be massive.

You even see carbooters and charity shops using eBay as a price guide.

All you can do is keep looking on a very regular basis.

Update V

We're near the end here, but I have 2 more updates from the big haul.

This is some lower value stuff, but might still be eye-catching depending on your tastes.

So we have a Game Gear bundle, no super rare games or anything, so this isn't worth a great deal and will be selling as an all-in-one joblot, but not owned one in about 20 years, so nice to see again.

Then we have an NES and controller bundle, including the sought after NES Advantage arcade stick (worth about £20). It's quite remarkable in terms of my luck, as I went the best part of 30 years since owning my first NES and then buying my 2nd (a few weeks ago, I caught a fully boxed action set in a 2nd hand electronics shop on IOM), now I've got 2 x NES consoles in just a few weeks, weird! :p

The NES came with a cool bundle of games, mostly loose carts with the exception of Konami's notoriously difficult/annoying Turtles game. The more eagle-eyed viewer might also notice the cartridge for Gargoyle's Quest II (top row, 2nd cart), which cart-only sells in the region of £80 on them auction sites.

And to round this off, we have a fully boxed SNES Super Scope. God knows what I'll do with this, as shipping it will be awkward at that size. May try to sell locally, or just keep it.

Got one more bundle to post, will stick that up later this evening. Enjoy.

Update VI

Final batch of items from the haul.

First up, we have a custom-painted Pink PAL Dreamcast, in addition to the the boxed Dreamcast from earlier. Along with that a nice batch of boxed PAL Dreamcast games, including the sought after Grandia II, which I will be keeping for my collection, along with the factory-sealed Chu-Chu Rocket!

And just to finish things off, an assorted bag of cables, controllers and a NES Zapper!

So for those wondering how much I paid, I managed to get the whole lot for £550. I've already worked out that it's worth in excess of £2K if I took my time to sell it carefully, so pretty pleased.

Hope you enjoyed the pics.

I want to build an arcade console but I'm not sure which direction to go down.

I have a Neo Geo AES and as we all know, games are very expensive. The MVS carts are cheaper but it means either buying a convertor or an MVS and consolising it. It would seem that these option from a price POV end up about the same.

I've had a brief look at these all in one jobs - Pandora 3 for example and building a sort of consoled JAMMA system. A few threads on this subject have suggested it's not so worth the effort if you aren't putting it in a cabinet.

So, I'm now looking at a Raspberry Pi, fitting a JAMMA adaptor, and running MAME. This, to me seems the best route to take.

Has anyone done this or know of anyone that has?

Do you plan on connecting it to an LCD screen or a VGA monitor? If it's to an LCD screen then can't you mod a large USB arcade stick and maybe house the Raspberry Pi inside?
