Retro console and games thread

Plug headphones into your Trinitron.

Or just play them at normal volume. As a parent of grown up children I can tell you from experience that the less noise you make the more sensitive they are to it.

If kids are tired they'll sleep through any noise. Particularly if they are use to going to sleep with TV noise on anyway.

He is our first so maybe i am a bit on tip toes, we dont worry about it from downstairs just right next door in a new build paper wall house i didnt want to risk it lol once hes down we like him to stay like that for as long as possible lol!

Ill give it a try and see how we get on! Want to crack on the paper mario etc

so haven't been to the charity shop in ages where I work so thought I would have a nose today

found factory sealed copies of MOH Rising Sun and XIII for the PS2 :) £1 each

Happy days :)

I did a tour of local charity shops last week and it was worse than slim pickings. A couple of PS2 FIFA's and that was it between about 6 shops.

So you've had a bit of a result there.

Yesterday's purchases :)

I'm starting to have the itch to buy a new system. I'm really trying to tell myself no more just get a few more games for what I have and call it a day but I fancy some more hardware in my relatively small collection. I sold all my PAL stuff off (excluding the Dreamcast as it supports 60hz/VGA) but fancy getting an NTSC NES/ Japanese AV Famicom since I miss my old PAL NES a little and or a Japanese Saturn. I never had one back in the day but always wanted one for Panzer Dragoon and X-Men Children of the Atom but was bought a PlayStation for my birthday instead by my parents, maybe that was a good thing at the time as it came with Resident Evil 1:cool:

Here is what I have so far:
SNES Mini (NTSC US) with RGB AMP Mod
Mega Drive Model 1 with good sound (NTSC Japanese)
PS One (NTSC US)
Dreamcast (PAL)
"Consolised" Neo Geo MVS (Omega CMVS) - I love this one so much!

Thinking to get:
AV Famicom (NTSC Japanese) with either RGB/ HDMI mod or the AVS NES Famicom FPGA system that just came out from RetroUSB.

White Japanese Sega Saturn so I can play a lot of the fighting games and arcade ports from the 90s.

Mega CD - I can't decide on this, I really fancy some Sonic CD and Final Fight CD but getting a Jap Model 1 Mega CD costs a fortune, plus they are very unreliable and would probably need a full service/repair. The model 2 is attainable and more realiable but it doesn't go well with the original Mega Drive and becomes a long beast indeed.

What do you reckon guys, quit while I'm ahead as it were or take the plunge on one? I guess I'd love all three but space and funds are limited. Regarding the NES I'd just get an everdrive and the odd game rather than build a collection for it, I just want to play the games on real hardware.

You can use an Ever Drive cartridge to change Mega CD BIOS. Might be cheaper than getting an import, especially as the Ever Drive has other uses.

I say buy whatever you want as long as you can afford it and have the room.

yeah I am finding the "room" issue at the moment lol

Think I have enough space to set up the Dreamcast though which is awesome. had a pallet of stuff at work from a failed house move attempt a year or 2 back. LOTS of retro I forgot about :)

I'm choked for console room. Well room full stop, but my TV unit is full and the unit next to it. Original Xbox not connected up, nor PS1.

Probably going to disconnect the Master System to make room for PS4. I never use it anyway, I play my MS games via the MD so I can play 60hz and full screen.

Added a support leg to the middle of the shelf behind my sim rig so I can add two more book shelves on top of it.

Mega Drive, PS2 and PS3 shelves full now so need more game space.

I didn't have time yesterday (and I fell ill so I had to abandon it)

you were lucky I didn't get there before you!

Need to try charity shops more, each time i go to mine theres either just dvds and the odd sports game/pc game

Only find i ever had was £1 for ps1 tony hawk 2 :( want gamecube stuff lol

I almost went in to an out of town charity shop a while ago but going on my previous experiences of charity shops I didn't bother, despite being stood right outside. My mate went in there the very next day and picked up Gotcha' Force on the GC for £1. :(

Edit: I think the key is visiting charity shops in the suburbs and in larger villages. When I do the rounds of the main ones in the town I always recognize two or three people doing the exact same thing as me.

Double edit: My uncle used to have a deal with some of the local charity shops that they kept every book they got until he had gone through them all. It wouldn't surprise me if people had similar arrangements on video games.

Can't believe this got so close to being released, not seen this much footage of it either.

Makes me happy and sad at the same time :) :(

There's always GoldenEye 007: Reloaded. I don't know how close it is to the original, having not played either. But better than nothing.

received soul calibur 2 on gamecube today :D clearly the best version :D

I've had it in my GC collection 3 times and each time sold it on because I tend to just keep console exclusives. But looking at my GC games now I've got 3 Resident Evil games, 2 Sonic games, 3 Star Wars games, Spyro and Timesplitters 2.

Its a decent game but nothing like the original Goldeneye on the N64.

If they can do a single player looking like this:

....well, i would pay money for it.
