Retro console and games thread

Since its my day off today i thought i would stream and play some of my recent pickups, namely pocky & rocky 2 today, i can see why its a sort after game.

Here is the video

I went to the Retro Revival in Walsall today, had a good time playing a few consoles I wouldn't get a chance play or even own.

But some of the prices what the sellers were charging! And some of these game I own. Ebay can be a real curse sometimes.

Hacked version of F-Zero, Called H-Zero :D

HOW MUCH FOR CASTLEVANIA SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT?!?!?!?

I used to own mint copies of Suikoden 1 and 2. Had to sell them to cover some bills during a period of unemployment. Still regret it even though I didn't really have the choice :(
Still got my copy of Star Ocean 2 at least!

I'm going tomorrow.

Was going today, but it started to rain:) Looking at those ps1 games, I had no idea the prices had jumped that high. I have the collectors edition of sotn, but I didn't know rapid reload was that high, or pang.

I only found out about Rapid Reload last year as looking at the PS1 launch titles. Then I saw the day light robbery price in ebay

Can't believe I paid £5 for Strider 2 off ebay 9 years ago. Even has Strider 1 in the box too.

Morning all, I've decided that I miss all my 90s consoles, particularly the sega variety and want to start building a collection again. Where should I start hunting for games (ebay excluded)?

I've still got my Playstation games which from the above pic include Suikoden 2, Castlevania SOTN and Star Ocean 2...but I also imported Valkyrie Profile, Final Fantasy Tactics and Lunar 2 Eternal Blue. Looking at those prices I'd love to think that I was sitting on a small fortune but somehow I can't help but think the market with that kind of mark up is miniscule.

I remember picking rapid reload up for £30 mint about 3 years ago on ebay and i thought about it for a few days before buying it didnt seem much intrest in it back then. now i cant find one on ebay at all, it is a great game though, i own another 4 off that ps1 rack i love the ps1 it seems to be getting more love the past few years ive noticed with collectors.

I went to Retro Revival. Had a great time with friends. Was lots of good stuff to play... especially enjoyed trying out Skycurser on the Astro City cabinet. The game was awesome and I managed to get my name on the score board, 4th at closing yesterday :-)

The trader stalls are really expensive now. I never bought anything, but overall the day was great.

other than Ebay, i use Facebooks local selling group , keeping an eye for any console stuff to appear (managed to get a lot of PS2 games for Free)
Also check out Charity Shops, sometimes you get the odd few goodies in, i missed a mint boxed Spectrum 48K with tape deck and printer, but they wanted £150 for it, so a gave it a miss

and dont forget the Car boots, need to get there VERY early though !

My god that looked heavenly! I am quite far from Walsall sadly. That PS1 collection though.. both Suikodens! :( I need to find one in Kent.

For a buying only event near Kent your best off going to The London Gaming Market http://www.londongamingmarket.com/ , next one 23rd July. It would have a lot of the same sellers.
The seller who's goods are in the last 2 photos has generally the most expensive/optimistic pricing.

Castlevania - Symphony of the night seems to go in the £120-£220 price range on ebay, condition and seller rep can does affect prices
Suikoden 1 or 2 £100 - £150. Some are less, but that down to condition or low rated seller.

I went to my first cb of the year yesterday, spotted what looked like some Master System games in a box deep in a car so I waited whilst the seller unloaded, only it wasn't the seller that was on all fours in the back of this guy's car but another buyer going straight for the games.

I think you need to be totally unabashed and ruthless if you want to do well from car boots (which unfortunately I'm not :(), or look for the smaller, one-off car boots.

I've even seen a game trader reduce a lady to tears pestering her to sell him her 3DS for £5.

First time id been to the Walsall event. Tbh I didn't really enjoy it like I had before, the single cramped room nature of it was far and away different from the relaxed atmosphere when it was at Wolverhampton.

Granted it's great that Craig Turner puts on the show, but it's not a patch on what it was before. The computer museum hadn't got all the rare machines there, the coin ops were quite spare, and the pins not all that great.

Hate to sound like on a downer, but not all that enjoyable.. I was gone after a couple of hours. That copy of castlevania had sold though, and nearly all his games were in the 20/40 pound bracket in the front bin.. bit overpriced perhaps.

Some new additions gifted by a friend! Only played God of war before out of these

While I'm no fan of high prices, if you allow for inflation, most retro games are cheaper now than they were new.

I bought Street Fighter II for the Mega Drive in 1993 at a cost of £59.99. That's £112 in today's money and far less than most retro games cost.

Most of the PlayStation games I bought in 1996 were between £44.99 and £49.99. That's £86 today and only a handful of PS1 games sell for more than £100 relative to how many were released.

10000 posts in this thread since it started. Here's to another 10000
