Retro console and games thread

Does anyone know a good way to capture console footage without causing lag? I'm currently thinking using a VGA splitter and having one end going into my monitor and the other going into some kind of capture card?

I hear you could also just 'route' it through a DVD recorder or HDD recorder? They're probably pretty cheap now I suppose...

Surely the game itself needs to support it no?

Nope. Swiss can force it on any game, doesn't have to officially support it. Doesn't work on every single game, but a good amount of PAL games support it fine when forced, there's a few troublesome titles were ntsc works fine in 480p, but forcing it on the pal copy breaks things, but a lot of titles are fine. Certainly enough that I'd go that route first, then just rebuy any troublesome titles, rather then replace whole collection. We only really lost it because the option (hold B) was used to enable 60Hz over here. Can force 576p as well, but that breaks pretty much every game as nothing was ever designed for that mode.

I picked up a MK2 MegaDrive last weekend for £6 at a local car boot sale.

Had Aladdin, which I wanted and randomly enough the worst ever condition of Streetfighter II Turbo for the SNES I have even seen.

Yet to try it all, but could not pass it up :)

That is a total bargin!

Can I ask where the boot sale was? I need to try and get to some around Glasgow.

Picked up this today from eBay. Took me a lot of searching to find an example as tidy as this. The insert, cart and manual are all in just as good condition.

I enjoy that knuckles is trying to stop smokers, how random!

Much nicer than my example. Mine looks like it's been punched several times :D really weird for them to do this in a cardboard case. Only reason I can think is due to the one off shape of the cart. Probably cheaper to do this than create a new plastic mold

Has anyone played Okamiden on the DS? I've played about and hour or so and it's really not grabbing me...tempted to just replay Chrono Trigger again or dip into the Final Fantasy games on the PSP, starting with FF1. Does Okamiden get better? I just feel like the story is going to be a non-event and I've seen all the gameplay already.

See there are snes mini classic unboxing videos appearing online.

Gui looks like the nes mini but with a couple of new features like rewind save states and borders.

Is that the board game hero quest or is it a computer game based on it? (I had space crusade as a kid and the kids two doors down had the hero quest board game)

How much does that stuff go for these days out of interest?

Also, IIRC, because these things are based on proper grownup Warhammer characters - I think the 'Boss' character/figure in hero quest is technically some ridiculously high scored character in proper Warhammer too with high points for everything.
