Retro console and games thread

Back in the day when i had a 1024*768 crt the vga picture on my DC was phenomenal, everything looked so sharp and vibrant.

I'm not too sure how it holds up today when hooked upto a hi-res tft as i'm sure the DC vga only outputted at 640*480

I have about 11 games now, bought a brand new controller because the one that came with it was a bit tatty, have a sealed copy of Quake III, sealed rumble pack and VMU, bought a nice translucent green one for the new pad. :)

Picked up Chu Chu Rocket for 99p from Gamestation along with Sega Rally, got a brand new copy of Code Veronica for a fiver too. :D Had a lot of fun with Chu Chu with a few friends.

Shenmue set me back around £20 I think, the cardboard sleeve is tatty but the discs and plastic cases look brand new!

Ohh, I'm loving that Blue Power light! Very nice!

Who wants a chuckle :p ?

Watching this particular beauty atm:

Almost brand new condition and will undoubtedly go for silly money...

I noticed one of the questions:

Hi would you take £30 fr this ? i can paypal you directly to save on ebay listing/sale fee's please let me know thanks Chris 27-Feb-11
A: i'll let the auction run its course thanks Chris.

I guess you get two extremes of stupidity on Ebay :D

I just found out my Zelda Minish cap was a fake pirate version after opening up the shell :<, so now I've got to buy another one after loosing the ability to save data.

luckily though, I found out my cousin nicked my Link to the past/four swords cart which i've been looking for ages for!

It might be worth picking up a copy of this months Retro Gamer magazine. It features an article on N64 collecting and a brief interview with someone who owns every single game ever releaed including 64DD!!

I've been collecting PAL N64 games for a while and have quite a nice collection but there still some games that i'd love to have that have eluded me due to price; Snowboard Kids 2 being the best example

I'm going to pick up a copy of this when I get off the train.

I didn't even know it existed. :o

Worth reading reguarly? Can you pick it up easily? I don't recall ever spotting it on Magazine racks.

They sell it in WHsmiths I've picked it up but I'm gonna have a flick through later, I've seen it on the shelves had a sneaky peak but never brought one.

Just received my Sega Saturn.

The thing is like brand new! The box is a little aged but in VERY good nick (just one or two small scratches), but everything else inside is literally almost like brand new! Also with 5 games! Not bad for £40 I'd say!

Yes definitely worth reading regularly. It's the only magazine I buy these days.

I usually buy mine from WHsmiths but I'm considering getting a subscription :D

The only issue I have is not really with the magazine as such but it makes me feel old and i'm only 25!! lol:p

Just curious, is it worth using a VGA box on the DC?

Definitely, on mine if a game doesn't support it you can have it so it will switch to normal viewing mode as long as you connect the RCA jacks to the VGA box.

But pretty much all NTSC games support it, in which case just find a copy of the NTSC version and use that instead. I do that with Code Veronica since my legit, PAL version doesn't support VGA.

VGA might only be 640x480 but it looks incredibly clear, more so than a Wii via component for example. I'm on a 42" plasma and I only sit 5 feet away, still looks brill.

:D

Well, I got a job interview very soon and things are looking good, so provided I get the job I'm gonna get myself a Snes tonight I think and finish off my Megadrive collection!
