Retro console and games thread

That's a very good price for the Saturn. Think I paid £20 for mine with a couple of games. Mine also has grey buttons not black. Didn't even realise there were different versions of the Saturn (except for different regions).

Edit; quick look on wiki shows that the game pad you have is the North American version. Is it a NTSC version of the console?

MK-80200-50 that's the model on the bottom

Looks good. Are you sending the sound to those speakers? I've seen a mod where you can wire the sound into the scart cable but I'll probably just send it to some speakers.

Yes there's an audio socket on my supergun that lets you connect everyday PC speakers. The udio clarity and quality is so amazing though I'm glad I'm not using the TV speakers.

Even now I can appreciate why the Neo Geo was such a luxury item of it's time. What's cool is I never got to play the Neo Geo back in the 90s with the price of the AES so the games are a new experience in many cases. Tthe Megadrive and Snes is what I played in the mid 90s.

When you hear SNK you think Art Of Fighting, Fatal Fury, and King of Fighters but there's so much more. Like Amazing footie games like the Super SideKicks games, Amazing Shmups like Blazing Star, Contra on crack style games like the Metal Slug series and Puzzle games such has Puzzle Bobble etc. I'm really glad I bought my MVS for £65.

I've had various collections over the years and sold them off, but started again middle of last year. I literally picked up loads of stuff from local ads over a period of two months and then other things got in the way and I stopped having time to play, so stopped collecting until recently.

Picked some bits up the other day :

48k Speccy with 100 games (£30)
Grandstand Firefox F7 - £7
Entex Defender - £7
Mastersystem 2 with 10 games (£30)

The speccy is a bit touch and go, I need to hold the leads at the back to get the loading screens up properly - not sure if it's the leads or the actual connectors on the back of the
speccy. Also for the life of me, I can't fully tune it in - tried it across 3 different CRT tv's.

It just doesn't quite get there, anyone know how to resolve this?

Will post some pics up of all my stuff when I get the chance.

Damn this thread, I keep looking and then spending money :(.

Even though I said I wasn't going near it, I got a Conkers Bad Fur Day for £35 inc p+p. Cart only but not too bad considering I've seen cart only going for £50ish, I guess the market for ntsc stuff is not so big, so keeps it reasonable.

I bought WWF No Mercy as well for £7.50 for some wrestling action.

This is thread is making me broke :(.

Not been buying anything for quite a while however have had time to actually play a lot of the games I bought over the summer still on the look out for a master system 1 and a saturn to finish off my shelf, I also need to get round to painting it too.

Got me self a dreamcast with 10games for 40 quid...gotta love that console!

Game over yeahhh...

Does any of the network stuff still work? I've never tried plugging mine in. Also picked up a Gamecube today, didn't really need one as the Wii will play the games but it was cheaper than getting an official pad separately.

Well my copy of Streets of Rage 3 turned up. Obviously it was a fake reproduction but given how it was only a tenner I don't mind as it allows me to play the game properly... On a whacking great big CRT TV :D Would love to burn a cart of the English translated Bare Kunckle 3 as its better but still for a tenner I'm happy with this:

:D

Yeah pleased with that for £2, will have to give it a play when i get a bit time, shame the box is a bit of a mess.

Wonderboy III truly is a gem of a game, it's aged quite well in my opinion :)

I can't believe how difficult it is to pick up an Atari Jaguar without resorting to the bay :( I've found one in a store near me but they wanted £100 for it in a tatty box with no games at all!

Guess I'm going have to browse ebay for one

That's a great price for a great game! :D

I got lucky years ago and bought the pal version for that and now its worth quite a bit more.

Sweet! Jet set radio time?

Got my N64 today, went home at lunch to get it fired up and how happy am I! Well pretty happy, only down side is my 42" plasma doesn't have an S-video so i can't order the cable, the y-r-w to Scart won't plug in as my TV is wall mounted and it sticks out to far so have to go straight to y-r-w on the TV, it looks pretty bad really. Not sure what to do now, don't have space/money for another tv so that's out :( now what?

Got my No Mercy today. Few marks on the back of it, looks like the black is starting to come off (NTSC has a black cart) where it's in and out the machine, but was not expensive (£7.50), so not too bothered. Seems to be a hard one to find in really good condition. I guess wrestling games, generally played by kids, so carts have a hard life.

Composite to scart will look the same as just plugging it straight in, as you have done. So not being able to use the scart block is no loss there.

Some TV's will take S-video via the scart port, although even if yours can, that brings back the issue of space.

You can get S-video to component transcoders, could go with one of them, although they are not cheap.

Brand New xbox first gen only opened to check contents.

Not hundred percent sure why I bought this but seemed like a good idea at the time.
