Retro console and games thread

DOL-001 = Digital out.
DOL-101 = No digital out.

Nintendo removed it on the later models as demand was not there. No demand probably had something to do with the component cables being expensive and only available officially from the Nintendo store.

Most PAL games have progressive mode stripped from them anyway. Nintendo really seemed to hate Europe then.

ah i thought maybe the one without was an early console makes sense now because i was just looking to see if i could get a cable and a few websites say there was no demand for the cable

I stupidly sold my old cube year or so back. Had the official digital jap scart cable.....was amazing.....cost me 60 quid back in the day mind you

someone locally has a boxed dreamcast for sale with games......wondering if to try and blag it cheap.....got 5 boxed cube games off her for £5 this morning!

My dad just brought home an Amiga 500 that he got from someone he knows :D. It works great (although it could do with a good clean and a bit of retr0brighting) but it didn't come with any workbench floppys meaning I can't do anything :(. Anyone who knows a thing or two about Amigas know what option I have if I can't get a hold of a compatible workbench floppy?

You guys getting good stuff in charity shops - which ones? I've had a nosey in a few and none have anything good. Lots don't even have games, I suspected they were eBaying them :p

British heart foundation usually is good for me but they can be pricey if they are in shopping centres or on big high streets. There ones like st oswalds and bernados always are very cheap and I have found good deals in them but I'd advise looking in the smaller shops in run down areas lol if your in a town that smells of methadone , hit the charity shops

Haha. Right I'm going to send you all copies I find. There will be many :D

The games I always look for is ico and shadow of collosus , I found a copy of ico but haven't seen any more. The metal gears I prob hold onto untill they release a new metal gear and hopefully I can sell them on eBay to fund a game I want it's like tomb raider now I have noticed people bidding on the old games because they want to play them again

I make a list of all things retro I want and always keep a look out when I'm going round charity shops but I usually find nothing but very old FIFA games.

Oneshotkill - you get my email about cube games mate?

My local charity shops stock varies from utter naff to gaming greats.....problem is the pricing sometimes

Drat I think I am on 2.05 but have a friend who has a 500.....
Will talk nicely to him and see if he has any spares kickin about

That's awesome, thanks! I have a couple of other questions I was hoping you could help me with. You don't have to have workbench to play games do you?

And do you have any idea what this is, it's in the bottom expansion port:

Hmm, according to Google, the Cartoon Classics bundle (the one that this is from) is a 500 Plus that runs on 2.04, yet this one runs on 1.3 and the ROM hasn't been replaced as the warranty seals weren't broken.

Cartoon Classics bundle was the cross over of the A500 and the A500 plus - at the time it was pot luck which one you got, my friend got an A500, I got the A500 plus. The thing in your picture is a 512k memory expansion, an A501 iirc which will push your Amiga to a whopping 1m of memory.

Ah right, thanks! I'm loving learning about these older home computers. They've always been there in the corner of my eye but I've never really looked in depth at them until now :D.
