Retro console and games thread

Found a few dreamcast games on the way home from work pass a couple charity shops never usually anything in but got these for a £1 each, be passing them onto my brother as my dreamcast is broke.

Were there any differences between the Amiga 500 and CD32 version of games? E.g. such as The Chaos Engine? (superb game)

Think there was a AGA (Advanced Graphics Adaptor) version for the A1200/CD32 with 256-colour graphics rather than the 32-colour maximum (ok, 64 if you included the halftone kludge) of the A500/600/2000 'standard' (OCS/ECS) version.

The CD32 was pretty much a A1200 with a CD-Drive and the Akiko chip (sans keyboard of course).

Yes I am a Amiga geek!

look what I was given at work today... lol

happy days... or expensive days.. considering I've pretty much just got every ps1 and ps2 game that I want.

But first thing is to get a psu for the megadrive and a master system convertor..

Nice? What kind of place do you work where they would give you that? The people where I work love retro so it's not gonna happen for me. BTW what games are under the Mega Drive pad? Sonic 2?

Just everyday people :)

The person is a big retro collector himself and he was given them by a member of his family, which he already had so he played it on.

It's sonic 1 and 2, I have them already on the ps3 on the sega mega drive collection but I'm still thankful.

Any chance I could borrow quake or exhumed ...want to unlock death tank zwei on duke. Literally need to create a save file lol

My wife nearly pulled me over when she spotted this in Insane Games in Wells:

Finally got one now :D

- N64 with memory expansion
- Single controller
- Turok 1, Turok 2 & Turok Rage Wars
- GoldenEye
- Jet Force Gemini

Can't play Turok for buttons but GoldenEye is very nice.

It has now been cleaned up (and smells like Lavender thanks to a bit of polish).

Not having a N64, well ever (grew up with the PS1), I have a couple of questions for those in the know:

1) Do you have to buy a memory card in order to save games? I noticed that Turok gave me a warning that I couldn't save anything without a memory card whilst GoldenEye didn't. Is it possibly on a game by game basis?

EDIT: Looks to be on a game by game basis. Memory card really for TFR between consoles.

2) Anyway to improve the rather abysmal picture quality cheaply on a LCD TV? It came with a composite AV cable which ends up looking VERY blurred on our TV. IS RGB scart available for it or are only certain models (NTSC etc) capable of it?

We won't have room for a Retro room in our new place so it all has to go through the main TV (Sony Bravia 1080p LCD).

good find!

yep you will need a memory card for some games, some hoewever (e.g. goldeneye / mario 64) will do a cartridge save instead (normally gives you 3 slots) - looks like you can get a brand new memory card for 3-5 quid on the bay inc postage :)

Best picture quality is via an S-video cable on a UK console as the euro systems cant output RGB (thanks Nintendo!), still looks AMAZING - link to the one i have
http://consolegoods.co.uk/ - just go to the N64 section and its the N64 S-Video cable - PAL version
you need. £9.90 + postage. i use this chap for all my retro cables, he is brilliant :)

hope that all helps.....PS buy Blast Corps!!!

This little lot cost me £17 inc postage, i am VERY happy with that as PAL Night Warriors is pretty hard to find :)

Thanks, will take a look at that later. Looks like I will need the S-video to SCART adaptor as well as this TV doesn't have S-video in (I think - will double check).

Will look out for Blast Corps.

Yeah scart block will be fine. Just get a decent one with full pin out if you can
You may well have an svid by the rca ins on the tv if you are lucky :)
