Retro console and games thread

I think I've finished collecting for the PS2 now :)
I know it's not considered that retro as it's not that old, but games a quite cheap for them at the moment. Only 64 ps2 games in my collection, but I think I have everyone that I want.
 
Has anyone here had any experience of Gameboy Game batteries running out- i.e. you can't save your game?

I'll be getting a few replacement batteries but ebay, the type I need cr1616 are pretty expensive. Can I use normal 1616 batteries?

The ebay listings also mention I'll have to solder the new battery in because weirdly the contacts are already attached to the battery, rather than the circuit board. However I removed the battery from the broken gameboy game but left the contacts in place. Surely I can just put the new battery in using the old contacts, as long as they're touching it will work right?

If not you need to make your collection 65. One of the best side scrolling shooters ever made. I snagged a copy from CEX by fluke for £12

I have replaced a few batteries in GameBoy cartridges and need to do quite a few more, Ideally I need a MegaMemory card to backup my saves. My Metroid 2 save from when I was a kid is at a tantalising 94% and I'd like to finish the game off before the battery dies.

Back on topic however, you can't reuse the tabs really so you are better buying batteries that already come with the tabs. I have explored battery holder options as I have added one to each of my snes carts but gameboy cart shells don't leave enough height to add one :( Desoldering the old battery and soldering a new one in is pretty easy for the most part, occasionally you might get one that is a pain to loosen the solder but more often then not they pop right out.
 
Picked up a cheap elgato hd last week to stream a few of my older games on twitch streamed klonoa on the ps1 (didnt put memory card in:o) yesterday was good fun, might do it tomorrow night if anyone wants to watch me play it again from the start?
 
Is the wii version of Resident Evil 1 different to the gamecube version?


I am sure ive completed it on the gamecube twice and i'm nearly near the end of the wii version and it feels a bit different some how

They are brilliant for retro consoles. I have two monitors and a Consumer Trinitron and i thought the Trini gave an awesome picture till i started using these. They make 240p signals look sooo good.

Require a bit of effort to get everything connected up and the picture tweaked but its most certainly worth it.

Fzero is awesome, but roll cage and fridge racer were playstation generation cd based music and not midi my good man, I admit that gen of cd based games churned amazing OSTs though

Tbh street racer and killer instinct come close on the snes too :)
