Retro console and games thread

I found some now defunct website years ago throwing out PSone games for £1-£2 each and managed to pick up all of the ridge racers along with CyberSled (sells for £20 itself) among a few other.....was a good PSone day :)

The gameboy box find is a complete winner! they are worth daft money fully boxed these days

I've not posted for a while so I thought I would share my latest pick up as it's one you don't see often (and it's one of the last 3 games I need on the NES) - PAL A vesion of The Flintstones: The Surprise at Dinosaur Peak.

^^

How you coping with just the one kidney?

How did you come to by it? Ebay, forum or out in the wild.

ha ha I'm fine with the one kidney ;) I think the worse thing is that it doesn't pop up for sale often rather than the price!

I have my own NES page on Facebook and a guy from Italy posted it for sale on there with a load of other games! So a couple of my Italian friends did the negotiating for me! :)

Are you prepared to reveal how much you paid?

What NES games to you now need to complete the set?

Is your NES collection all CIB?

The cost of it isn't probably as high as what you might think I might have paid? It was 750 Euro's shipped!

I now need Stack Up and Corvette.

From my excel spreadsheet (I'm a gimp I know)...

Games in PAL A set 307
Games in Collection 305
Games Complete Total 262
Cart Only Total 43
Games Required 307
Games Needed 2

By cart only that could mean just cart, cart and box or cart and manual! I've bought a bundle of NES games I need this week so I can say 7 more complete and reduce the amount of carts!

Nice one, I don't think I have any desire to complete any particular set for any console.

I mainly collect system exclusives for the most part, unless it's a particular game I played and owned previously.

Is the target to have the full set CIB? Or are you happy to complete the set and upgrade cart only to CIB if the opportunity presents itself?

I didn't when I first started collecting a good while back but I was buying anything and everything and I thought I'll just concentrate on the NES as it's one of my favourite consoles. I still pick up SNES and Megadrive games as and when they pop up for sale and I need them!
I could easily complete the set by picking up carts for the last 2 I need but I'm holding out for completes as I don't want to upgrade in the future. it's getting quite difficult now as so many people are doing it!
So I'm happy upgrading my carts whilst picking up games we didn't have released over here from the US and Europe etc. So I'm no panicking to finish the PAL A set!

Picked up this lot last week for £60 and trip to Nottingham. Took a punt on the one Mega Drive being a Japanese model, his pictures weren't clear enough to identify for sure. Rather than waste time asking questions I just made an offer before someone else steamed in.

Unfortunately it turned out to be Asian PAL.

Should be able to sell on the Master System Converter, both Mega Drives and Castle of Illusion to cover my costs.

Means I add a Japanese Strider, Street Racer and an N64 console to my collection for free. Plus Wonder Boy, Indiana Jones, Asterix and Joe Montana for the Master System.

Also had this turn up from Japan today, brand new and sealed. Bought on eBay and cost me £5.70 delivered, bargain. :D

Another parcel from Japan today

I read that yesterday so I don't think it's old news. I think I'd prefer the original NES controller anyway. It would be almost the same as using an Xbox 360 controller when playing emulators. There always feels like there's something missing when you don't use the original controller. Unless it's something like the original Intellivision controller.

Talking of controllers, I've got an original PlayStation analogue controller on the way, the one before the Dual Shock controller. It has concave thumb sticks.

Happy today. I've been keeping half an eye out for an original Mega Drive since I got hold of a faulty Mega-CD 1 that I want to try and fix. I've only got a Mega Drive 2 and it doesn't sit nicely with it, but I wasn't desperate enough to get one off e-bay.

Spotted a local one on Gumtree this morning and picked it up this evening. Got the Mega Drive and copies of Mega Games 2, Micro Machines 2 (whoop!) and Streets of Rage 2 (mega whoop!) for £25! All the games are complete with manuals in very good condition.

All added to my collection. The only dupe is Mega Games 2, but my original copy was without instructions, so I'll swap it out for my new one :)

Finally got my hands on a quality stick for my Mega Drive. I had been looking for the Hori Arcade Fight Stick Multi. Then saw this last week on eBay and paid just under £30 delivered.

Also from eBay is the first PlayStation analogue. It came out before the Dual Shock so doesn't have rumble. It does have concave thumb sticks, which feel much better than the convex ones they stuck with until the PS4.

Bought it as part of a bundle with a boxed PS2 slim, sealed memory card and the DVD remote all for £31 delivered.
