Retro console and games thread

Picked up this today.

I don't have room for it in my game room so we've replaced the TV in the conservatory with it. I didn't need a TV or a PS2 but it's a bit of a novelty item so I couldn't really pass it up.

Cost me £80, it came with about 35 games, 3 official controllers and 3 official memory cards. He didn't even bother with a picture of the games, so I had no idea what they were going to be.

Most of the games were the "usual suspects", that you always get with a PS2. Splinter Cell, GTA, MoH, COD2, WWE etc

There was one game in there that was a bit of a nice surprise, see spoiler tags. :D

As you may or may not know this was one of the last official releases for the PlayStation 2.

You fellas on holiday? It's been a bit quiet around here.

These arrived in the post.

£8.50 delivered for Super R-Type which is pretty cheap. And £21 for Super Aleste delivered, which isn't the cheapest they go for but cheaper than all the BINs.

What's that ps2 thing? Never seen that before.

It's a Sony Bravia KDL-22PX300 LCD TV

So it basically has a PlayStation 2/DVD player built into the base. Apparently only sold in the UK at Richer Sounds and cost £200 back in 2010.

It also uses the XMB that first appeared on the PSP.

It's not a half bad TV either, fantastic picture compared to the one we had. My only real gripe is there's no swivel on the base. So you can't set the base square and then angle the TV.

Maybe they should have made it side loading and then the base wouldn't have needed to be so bulky.

I've just picked up a Sony Trinitron TV 21" CRT TV.

My game room is small so getting both TV's in and attempting a side by side comparison with my B&O MX4000 was a struggle but I had to do it.

I used a couple of Mega Drives, both connected with RGB SCART.

The Sony wins hands down. The best way to describe the difference is the Sony looks like RGB and the B&O looks like composite.

I was actually really surprised at the difference, the only problem is the Sony TV is at least 10cm deeper than the B&O and might no fit in the same space the B&O occupies. If I can't get it to fit then I'll be on the look out for a smaller one. Might take the B&O to work and set it up in the break room with a MegaDrive and an Everdrive flash cartridge.

There's only three of us now and I have the break room to myself, so no one is going to complain when I've got MUSHA blasting out of the speakers.

Oddly yes lol. for the last 2 weeks.

May have accidentally started a PSP collection whilst led in the sun too...oops!

Used to have one and kicked myself for parting with it. Its SO cheap to get hold of one and some of the amazing games available now

Its all waiting at work for me on Tuesday - off Monday as mate has rented a cinema screen out for 3 hours so we can play computer games for his 30th bday....CANNOT WAIT!

that is the first time I've ever seen one of those... That is super retro and way cool now. Good find.

I despair at the younger generation, 2 guys at work and 1 of them was signing up to a forum and it had 1 of those standard, are you a robot questions.

The question was "Which company made the Dreamcast?"

He turned round and asked me, all I could do was give him a dumbstruck stare, then the other guy shouts out "Nintendo!"

I had to school them on their errors, but damn, they're both in their early 20's! :(

That's so cool.

Any idea what type of games you'll be playing? PC, current generation or retro?

I'd love to play MUSHA in a cinema.

They are quite strict on connections you must have, think it was hdmi video and optical sound only

we defo have the xbone with MKX, forza and halo and i am trying to convince him to pick up rare replay :)

Retron 5 has HDMI.

Xbox One doesn't output 5.1 correctly, the centre channel only works during cut scenes. I noticed it while playing Halo 5. A Google confirmed it as a known issue that Microsoft hasn't fixed. Or at least they hadn't when I sold mine a few weeks back.
