Retro console and games thread

I know most of us, including myself, frown on such things but i just noticed that the Retro Freak console is on Amazon for pre order. Didn't even know we were going to get it over here. Not that i know if it's any good or not but supports pc engine/turbo grafx games as well as the usual suspects. Could be a really good space saver for people with not enough room for all their consoles, like me.

For that price I'd consider getting a pi and doing some kind of build. My gaming table came out at about £70 all in and was a hoot to put together. I know you can't use the original carts but at least I am more inclined to play the older games.

Got a Pi sitting here with kodi on atm and have been considering getting another card for it to set up retro pie but there is somethig that bit nostalgic about plugging in a cart.

freak console ? never heard of it

There are probably some FPS games and multi platform titles, but there are 2 other videos he does on Xbox 360. So should be a few games in there worth looking at.

I have a Pi setup running retropie, brilliant little device but I still also have my snes setup and am always on the lookout for bargain games. I just cant put my finger on why I prefer running the actual hardware. Playing through A Link to the past again at the moment. Unforgettable experience. :)

A Link to the Past is still one of my favourite games of all time. I have played through it so many times on the SNES and also on my WiiU. Its just so good in so many ways,

Just had a poke around some charity shops! Seems they are getting wise to how much games are worth

They had a ps1 game called The Raiden Project for £50 :/ seems like it goes on eBay for around 40ish

Goes to show what can I found :)

Think it's a bit wrong for charity shops to do this or is it wrong for us to expect a bargain?

Charity shops have just as much right as anyone else to make as much profit as possible. But pricing above eBay is not on if they actually want to sell it.

Same thing happens on other selling sites, like Gumtree and Shpock

People without any knowledge of the item or the risks and costs of selling on eBay just look and the highest price one that's for sale and immediately think that's what theirs is worth. Rather than looking at SOLD items and accounting for fees, postage and scumbag buyers.

Indeed I agree, it's just odd to see don't know why. Someone gave them that game for free and they run with it but then that's the idea of charity shops which I'm all for of course, so it's hard to complain I guess :D I need to find time for car boots and looking deeper for better deals online

You have the correct approach which seems to be lacking from many retro collectors.

I used to manage a charity shop and would use sites to get an average price of game, take a few quid off due to charity shop and I would be pretty damn happy when it sold. I got money towards budget and someone got a bargain.

People sadly want everything for nothing now, not just retro games :(
