Retro console and games thread

Right, I'll have two hours in town tomorrow before a hospital app. I know the shop I'm going to (Xpress Games) had an Atari 2600, is it worth getting? I can't remember the price which is the only mistake..

Just thought It's one more for the collection. If they have a NES, even better.

I got one from a local shop and plugged it in to my HDTV via RF (I know) and it wasn't playable the image is that bad...it's been in the loft ever since. If you have a CRT then go for it!

No CRT.. yet. I'm guessing they aren't cheap, any particular brand/model I should look for? is around £50 doable?

Am I looking for a CRT Monitor, or a big box telly? Assuming It's RF like my Commodore 64 is.

You might be better off with an Atari Flashback because that uses AV input rather than RF.

RF looks awful even on a CRT.

If you are going to buy a CRT then Sony Trinitron is the best option in terms of bang for buck. To be honest you shouldn't have to pay more than £10-20 if you're patient.

21" - 24" 4:3 TV is the sweetspot. I think all the Sony TV's that size have a least one RGB SCART input and output stereo sound. So you'll have the best TV for all the 16 and 32 bit consoles.

@kinger, I'm a small collector I think. I have a Game Boy Advance SP, PS1 > 4, Xbox Original > Xbox One, SNES, ZX Spectrum, Amiga 1200, Commodore 64 and an N64.

Went to Xpress Games, no Atari sadly. But did pick up:

Soul Reaver 2 PS2
Tekken Tag Tournament PS2
Spartan Total Warrior PS2
Extreme G for N64
Ghost Recon 2 Advanced Warfighter X360 (20p in GAME!)
Project Gotham Racing 4 for 20p as well lol.. Can't say no to that!
NFS Most Wanted, new one, X360
Dead Space 2, X360 for £1
Shadow of Rome for PS2
Medal of Honor, new one, for £1

Good haul today!

had a package arrive today

Taito Legends on the PS2 !! :D :D

finally get to play Bubble Bobble & Rainbow Islands All over again !!!!!!!
SO HAPPY !

just looked in the for sale section, that snes bundle you bought Barmy, looks fantastic !

I was tempted when it was listed a few months back. But I don't play my SNES much, as I was a Mega Drive owner back then, so I don't have any nostalgia for the system. Nor do I have that many games. But what I do have I want to play at 60Hz and full screen and have the option of any region cartridges in the future, which can be cheaper. So apart from my Wii and XBox 360 all my systems are region free.

I bought Taito Legends 2 a few weeks back. Cheapest way to play G Darius, Darius Gaiden, RayForce and RayStorm.

Although I already had G Darius for the PS1.

I think it looks better on the PS1 beacuse it's a port rather than the Taito Legends version which is emulated. Or rather the image quality is better, the Taito Legends version has that composite look to it rather than the PS1 version's RGB. Even though my PS2 is RGB connected to the TV.

Nice set of systems!

I currently wanted to gather all the ones I grew up with so starting with the mega drive! So have that, the N64, Dreamcast and GameCube. I want to focus on GameCube as that's the one I have most for right now!

Though I would like a Ps1 or maybe slim ps2 to cover both!

Unrelated but

What do you guys make of today's limited run physical games? Are they worth picking up? Dear Esther is going on sale soon only 5000 being made physical, only been digital til now. Not sure if it's worth grabbing. It's a favourite of mine

Hey all! It's been a while with moving house, new job and my heart trying to stop to boot!

Local pick up tonight, Indigo cube boxed with psu and cables...AND...A Gameboy Player + Pool Paradise boxed game

Cost me 20 quid so quiet happy regardless but i believe I don't have the gb player boot disk :(. Are these still rare as hens teeth? Does anyone have a spare lol

I was about to ask if you had the disc until reading further :D

Its a common issue i see sometimes people saying they cant source the disc! Surely theres a way!

I've ordered a few times.

Takes anything up to four weeks to arrive and they charge $15 shipping. They give you the option to hold over games and ship in one go to reduce the cost. But then it takes even longer to get your games and it's not saying you'll want every game that goes on sale.

Also be aware that while they don't do reprints there's nothing stopping the same developers using different publishers and the game being released again. This happened with Soldner X2, Play Asia published it a few weeks ago and so now there are another 3000 copies available.
