HD TV, probably via RGB scart or component
 
DVD recorder with an upscaler worth getting for my old consoles? guy on YT from USA had one and it looked pretty good. As much as I'd love a Framemeister I aint shelling out that much.
 
Just received the repro for Twinkle Tale on the Mega Drive and spent the last two and a half hours playing it..great game. Here is a video of me playing it. Died a lot but gradually got further each time :)

Probably need an upscaler to get decent image quality.

Take a look at this video about the Analogue NT Mini.

At the minute is a field programmable gate array machine programmed to perform as an NES and Famicom. But the guy who programmed it has written custom firmware that will allow it to run almost any 8 bit system via the SD card slot.

And since the Analogue NT is designed with running on HD TV's via HDMI with the best image quality possible, it's certainly worth looking in to it in the future or other similar systems that use FPGA.

Since these FPGA chips act in exactly the same way as the original hardware it's not emulating the games it's playing them exactly the same way as original hardware.

 

Bit unrelated mate but you know your stuff, what would you expect to pay for a sega Saturn with 2 controllers and all the usual leads? No games or box but does have a carry case of some sort

I'm no expert, so don't mind me at all.

I've only been collecting retro stuff for about 18 months. So a lot of what I've picked up has been from this forum, websites and YouTube.

I have bought and sold a fair amount in that time so I keep an eye on prices.

Having said that £50 seems the going rate for a Saturn. There were a lot less of them sold compared to the original PlayStation so prices seem to reflect that.

I would expect them to start going up in price at some point. Since someone cracked the expansion port on the back, that was originally used for a VCD module. So there's a chance of an Ever Drive type device in the near future.

And since it was very difficult to program for originally it's also proven very difficult to emulate.
 
Thanks mate appreciate the info. Not sure if I really want it or not lol just being a bit of an impulse, I don't even have nostalgia for that system.

I keep meaning to grab an everdrive to try before I buy but I worry once I have it I won't feel obliged to buy the actual game once I have it for testing
 
There's no Ever Drive devices for the Saturn as far as I know. Just that some clever chap found a way to use the expansion port to run software.

As far as other Ever Drive cartridges go. Any game you buy will be second hand anyway, so the publisher and developer get nothing from that sale. But if you felt that strongly about a particular game then you could always see if it's available on Steam, Xbox Live, PSN or Virtual Console and make a purchase.

True, it would be nice even just to have the games I own on it to save switching carts in and out! Can only blow so many cart slots.. ^dodgy :)

There's x3 x5 and x7 EDs and I'm not too sure what differentiates them
 
I think I've used one of those in the past. I'm sure it was in a job lot of stuff. Seemed ok to me. You should be able to change to 4:3 via TV settings.

But for £25 are you sure you don't have room for a CRT TV? A B&O 21" MX4000 has the smallest footprint for a TV of its tube size.

I do have a CRT set up with my consoles upstairs in a spare room. Only problem being our little one sleeps right next door and the only time I get to play is whilst he's asleep. He's a fairly light sleeper so always worried about risking it! (14month old)

Tbh it would probably be fine but just looking at a way to play downstairs if needed.
 
Amiga 500, Quickshot 2 pro and Top Gear 2 dispatched! HYPE. Amiga should be here thursday at the latest.

Monitor still hasn't, but that's apparently due 6th.

cant link to YT video coz he swears , but he normally uses a scart to component, and he swore it was the best, now hes get the HDMI one and its much better

thinking of doing this for my SNES (and Mega drive when i get it)
