Always hear about these, fairly pricey aren't they?

Pics above inspired me to sort my cable management out too! Looking much better than it was, just need to decide on a multi scart switch solution now to make swapping easier. That said I labelled the RGB scart and tied them up nicely near the tv for easier switching for the time being

I am fascinated by anything old/retro. I had in mind at one point to build an 8088 system! The CPU's are cheap but the Motherboard.. 100's now!

I had a Megadrive, paid £10 for the console, controllers and some games back in my childhood.

I have a few of those full of Amiga stuff! Floppy drive on a C16... that must have been awesome instead of tapes.

My first console was a Megadrive I stupidly sold on eBay when I was younger, rebought another but it’s broke now so I’m using a MD II I don’t like as much (but have the 32X and Mega CD to go with it)

The early computers are really quite interesting to have - the great simple engineering of the Sinclair ones, must have been mind blowing at the time... loading from tapes is a pain in the arse but they sell SD interfaces for them all these days
 
I had tapes on the C16, and floppy disks on something but cannot remember what.

Total Carnage I had on one Amiga whatever one it was.

Most memorable games were: Total Carnage, Kid Chaos, Road Kill (I have), Zool (I have), Brutal Football (I have), Top Gear 2 (I have), Frontier Elite (I have), and Pinball Mania.

Replace cheap B&M shelving units with IKEA KALLAX, fitted the backing myself and also cut out a little recess for 3 lots of 2m RGB LED strips.

Was the lighting easy to do? I've seen the strip kits on Amazon etc I guess that's the sort of thing to get? May do mine and maybe as a back light to the tv!

Any links would be appreciated, cheers!

The lights are just USB LED strips. Not sure if I can link to them as OcUK sell these kind of things I think. All bought from Amazon.

not kept up with this thread for a while but if i want to connect the following to a modern tv what do i need to get better picture quality and possibly all in on solution?

NES, Snes, Megadrive, N64, Gamecube, Dreamcast, PSone, Xbox, PS2

Well, i guess it depends how serious you are about them. At the very least you would want quality RGB scart cables and a tv that supports it. The NES and maybe the N64 being the hardest (pretty sure anyway) NES will be component only at best (without spending a lot on mods) and i think the Euro version N64 the best you would get is S-video (although there are some North American models that can be modded to output RGB oddly enough but i dont think the euro version can be).Can't remember if the PSone supported RGB scart or not.Dreamcast you can get a vga box for if you have a screen that supports it. PS2 supports Component cables but the cheap chinese ones can be hit or miss and i think (but someone may correct me) that the original xbox also supported it (Although i think the cables are rare and the best you might get would be RGB scart).Megadrive will be RGB scart aswell as the SNES and Gamecube (which the 2 nintendo ones can share a cable if you get a good one aslong as you don't mind swapping it between them). Then of course you need some sort of switch box to get them all to the tv. And then if you are really serious then a framemeister or OSSC to improve the picture quality even more.

But if you're not that bothered about picture quality just get whatever cheapy cables and some composite/scart/component to HDMI boxes from the bay/Amazon.

N64 is the problem machine, most you can get a good picture from but N64 had no RGB output and also because of how it dealt with graphics looks the worst on todays TV's. Sad as it was epic but it's a hard machine to get looking good unless you RGB mod it really.

I am a bit tempted to look into the RGB mod some time soon, meant to be a night and day difference for the system. Just need to weigh up if it's worth it for the amount I would use it.

I don't know if the cracked Super NT will play those chip games via the SD card, as it just simulates the SNES hardware in the FPGA, I don't know if he included the chips into the FPGA program. I'd stick with original carts if you can. I plan to get a flash cart but I stll have stuff like Kart and Starfox on cart already.
