Hey...

A few days ago a friend and I were trying to remember the dates for release of the:

Master System, Mega Drive, Nes, SNES, Saturn, Playstation, and the N64.

Anyone have any ideas when they were released, the USA Japanese and the Pal versions ;)

I think the saturn was 1995 in japan, and 1996 in the UK, I think the N64 was 1998... PS1 was 1997 I think... Megadrive 1993?

Anyone know for certain

Firstly, Try Google or Wikipedia for these sorts of queries. You'll find out what you want to know much more quickly than if you post it on a forum.

I think you're a little off with your estimations;

Sega Master System: June '86 US, June '87 Japan (second release)

Mega Drive: October '88 Japan, January '89 US, November '90 EU

NES: July '83 Japan, October '85 US, '87 EU

SNES: November '90 Japan, August '91 US, April '92 UK

Saturn: November '94 Japan, May '95 US, '95 EU

Playstation: December '94 Japan, September '95 US, September '95 EU

N64: June '96 Japan, September '96 US, March '97 EU

Of course google would be a better bet, but its more "active" on the board... also I wanted to see people discuss their memories of console launches and so on. Its more "fun" like this, no need to rush things.

I cant believe I was off on the dates though :( I actually owned a lot of those consoles too :(

*editted to make a tad more sense*

I like how Sega and Sony re-developed their controllers after seeing the N64 one with analogue stick and rumble pak technology. :)

The Saturn was really quite rushed to market... with the 3D technology added almost as an afterthought. Hence why it was so difficult for third parties to get optimum performance out of.

I remember getting my N64 just after launch though... Turok cost £69.99... and Mario 64 was £59.99... was well worth it though. I know someone that paid nearly a grand for a Japanese import. :o

Random fact: Sonic did not hit the Mega Drive until well after launch, until 1991 in fact. :o

Weren't Sega the first company to make a pad with an analogue stick? I'm pretty sure they designed the first one which was sold originally with the game Nights.

The Nights one was the first available - but Nintendo showed theirs off before anyone else. The N64 pad was mainly Miyamoto's controller to play Mario 64 on more than anything... other bits and pieces were added as an afterthought. :o

i@m pretty sure that Mario 64/Pad was out before Knights, Davey. Sega basically got Sonic Team to come up with something that could stand up to the sensation that Mario 64 caused and Knights was the answer with Analouge pad.

I loved my sega saturn, it really shouldve done better than it did, I had a f1 game for it that I blitzed to death. I may try to pick one up.

Also the megadrive games where you flew the apache doing missions what where they called again? Would love to play the first couple of those again.
