I'm starting to rebuy older FPS games like Doom 3 and the quake series through steam.. and I'm wondering if anyone knows of any graphical updates for them?

Even configs to allow better effects.. or higher res textures etc :)

Atm I have one installed for Doom 3 that updates the textures a bit.. and makes it look quite nice..

A quick google resulted in not many for the likes of Quake 1/2/3.. and a few configs for 4..
Not sure I want to touch Doom 1/2 tho..

I figure I'm not the only person to have done this :)

I'm looking specifically at Quake 1 next.......

If someone would do one to replace the sky box on Quake 4 I'd be happy. It was a real throwback and looked awful against the nice shiny Doom 3 engine.

GTX keeps throwing up errors for me.. dunno why.. will try again later :)

Edit - Wonder if its does that beacuse I'm running through Steam??

Ah yes! I remember that bump mapped Quake now, wow been a while since I played that.

For Quake, just use GL Quake, that is about the best you'll get.

Heh, not even close :)
GL Quake is well over 10 years old now, and it shows. Riddled with bugs, substandard visuals and painful to use.

Try nQuake for quakeworld: http://nquake.com
There are probably better looking clients for singleplayer Quake, but that's a great starter package for the multiplayer-oriented Quakeworld.

Personally I believe ezQuake (included in nQuake) to be by far the most technically advanced FPS client on the planet, aside from the graphics. The feature complexity is several times larger than that of say Quake 3 and it's just so configurable, my cfg file for example is 125KB!
