Retro Games in VR (including Time Crisis)

The original Quake is a blast on Oculus Quest 2! You have to mess around with sideloading and add the HD and NIN music files separately, but after that it all works great. The monster models look a bit basic but the gameplay is pure fun. Not bad for a game released over 25 years ago.

You can get Doom, Quake2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Half-Life and Doom 3 too. All excellent source ports, though you do need to own the original game (say on Steam or GOG) to get the game data files from.

Original Half Life is great on the Quest

I had already installed Half Life. :D

Added Quake last night and if anything it's more fun than I remember when it was first launched. The only thing that lets down the experience really is the poor black levels of the Oculus Quest 2. The Quake maps have plenty of dark areas that come across as flat shades of grey on the Quest 2 LCD panel.

Already tried Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Half Life in VR and will be adding Doom 3 and Quake 2 in due course, as well as Half Life Blue Shift and Opposing Force. It's now the last couple of hours of the Steam sale if anyone needs to pick up the original games cheap so that you can then VR them e.g. Quake, Quake 2, Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein are all currently just £1.19 each.

Also you can get Virtual Boy games running on the Quest too.

That's very interesting as in many ways the experience is superior to the original and you can appreciate the games without getting eye strain and a crick in the neck!

Do these old school games actually work as 3d? Or just 2d within VR?

The first person shooters mentioned (Half Life, Quake, Quake 2, Doom 3 and Return to Castle Wolfenstein) all place you in the 3D VR environment. Plus the fact that you actually install and run them on the Quest 2 means that there is no messing around with cables or WiFi when you play them.

Triffic. Is there a guide as to how this is all done? I don't actually have Q2 yet - planning on getting one very soon.
