Yes, easy solution to play your carts via HDMI, mine works great, provided controller is junk use originals for each system.
I've only heard anecdotal reports but the experiences people have had seem poor, with issues transferring save data off/on to carts, and problems with incredibly tight cartridge slots. If you're serious could you stretch to an XRGB-mini Framemeister or an OSSC?
Obviously take that with a pinch of salt though, especially since there are good people here who own them.

Cart pins are tight, never had an issue loading saving onto a cart though.

Looked at a Framemeister, expensive and I need to ensure this isn’t just a fad I quickly get bored of hence why I thought I might try the Retron. If I like it then I might expand and buy a console or two and consider a Trinitron CRT or a Framemeister, probably the Framemeister, convincing the wife why I need to bring an old CRT TV into the house wouldn’t be easy.
