I've spent many years playing my PS2, Dreamcast, Wii etc using analogue cables on HDTVs. I know I don't want a CRT. I am thinking I should get a de-interlacing and upscaling device like a retrotink 5x /5x pro or the OSSC. I don't know much about them to be honest, I know the 5x is expensive but if it gives me many years of retro console gaming then I am OK with that.

I see on the 5x web page it says it can do 480i (most PS2 games). Does it output 50Hz or 60Hz? Can it do PAL60 de-interalacing too?
Would either / both work on a Dreamcast over VGA (which I assume is 480p progressive scan)
Would either / both work with an Amiga which from memory is 15Hz (do amiga games really play at/appear on screen at 15fps?)

From reading both webpages (5x and the OSSC 1.8) it seems the OSSC does not upscale, except 240p.

The biggest thing I'd want to get out of it is the best possible de-interlacing, rather than trying to blow up a 480 image to 2k or something.

I had a 5x when they got released up until the 4K came out. Never had any issues with my PAL Mega Drive or PS2. Dreamcast has always been my go to and worked perfectly, but I would recommend a 480p scart cable from Retro Gaming Cables.

It might be worth asking in the RetroTINK discord for specifics around 15khz and maybe even different PAL consoles.

The Morph seems like a product that has some potential but I don't believe their analogue options have come out yet?

The RetroTINK 4K is the real mccoy of scalers but expensive.

The OSSC Pro looks quite good and might be worth checking out :).

As Joe mentions, it's important to have the right cables and decent ones at that. Most of mine have come from RGC also.

I've a few different retro consoles and up until recently I used them all with a standard OSSC. It has worked very well and displayed everything on my 58" Panasonic 4k LCD TV, that I use for gaming. The only exception was my NeoGeo CD which refused to produce a picture at all. There are a lot of config options available on the OSSC - and I'm no expert - but I couldn't get it working properly and bought a Framemeister to cover.

I have since purchased a Retrotink 4k, partly because I wanted to see if I could improve on the OSSC and also because I never felt the PS2 looked particularly great, regardless of what settings or cables I used. I have to say the PS2 now looks amazing with the RT4k, but it's pretty poor from a value perspective. If you don't want to spend that much to begin with, I would suggest trying a 2nd hand OSSC as a starting point. It will be cheap and do pretty much everything you need.

I could use my RT4K for all up-scaling duties now, however I often still use my OSSC - it's a two-button click setup, if all I want is a quick gaming session. I haven't had time to test the RT4k with all my consoles, but this is what I currently use:

Amiga 1200 - OSSC

Acorn A3000 - OSSC

PC Engine Duo-R (w/RGB mod) - OSSC

Neo Geo CD - Frameister/RT4K

Dreamcast - OSSC

N64 (w/RGB Advanced mod) - OSSC

PS2 - RT4K @1080p

PS1 (PixelFX HDMI mod @720p) 1080p via RT4k

Saturn - OSSC
