It's just a flag right? Who cares if it flies or not?

Or is it a massively significant gesture to only let the Union flag fly on certain days above Belfast City Hall?

Still amazes me the amount of violence that goes on around the world in the name of who has administrative powers over your country. Like it really makes that much difference to the pub you go to on Friday nights or the field you run in at the weekends. Obviously a lot of people disagree or there wouldn't be a problem, and taking my stance to its logic conclusion could mean a whole load of nasty things, but all that violence to determine who runs Northern Ireland...?

Besides which the Republic should be begging for Westminster to take over  :p.

Had a brief search for similar threads and could find nothing, so apologies in advance if there's already a discussion on this.

I'm surprised that so much Unionism / Loyalism still exists in Ulster. Sometimes I wonder if Westminster pays English people to go over and pretend to care to de-grease the Republican machine.

Why? It's been part of the UK for hundreds of years. Indeed the entire island of Ireland was under British rule until the 1920s and the war of independence.

They don't need to.

What I don't understand is why people have such a problem with Northern Irish people wanting to remain part of Britain, but none with Falkland islanders wanting to remain part of Britain. If the war of independence had happened as recently as the Falklands war, would there be more support for those who wished to remain British in Northern Ireland?

It just looks neater on the map. That's as good a reason as any other I've heard.

The difference to Las Malvinas being that the entirety of the island wants to remain British.

^ Infamously, Wales isn't much better.

Riots are not just the domain of the Northern Irish, London knows how to put on a show as well.

This isn't a 'who is the worst rioter' competition. Feel free to start a thread about the civil unrest of jobless youths in London.
