Return to 'The Troubles'?

You should check out some of the facebook pages associated with these protests.
I guarantee you a good laugh!
Just search for "Loyalists against"

Grammar folk you may cry......

I've never understood why people care so much about who a bit of land supposedly 'belongs' to anyway. Especially your IRA types who live in the Republic and miles away from NI anyway.

If Scotland suddenly declared that Newcastle was now part of Scotland, I honestly wouldn't give a crap.

I think Newcastle might! :p

Nationality and statehood exist for very real contemporary - and also historic - reasons. I look at things on a more global scale, yet cannot remove the necessity of communities and their management.

I don't disagree with your personal assessment or outlook; just that I feel sometimes the baby is thrown out with the bathwater so to speak.

I had to laugh at the feeble attempt Scottish Unionists had at their own version of the protests. A grand total of 7 (yes, SEVEN) turned up to protest outside the deputy FM's offices. Complete with flegs and scarf covered faces, they picketed a closed office.

Scottish Unionists yet again succeed in merely making their cause appear stupid and menacing at the same time :)

Remember, "50,000" Orange Lodge members are threatening to become terrorists if they do not like the outcome of our democracy; that's if the rUK-English fighter jets sent direct from the House of Lords don't trample us underfoot to start with.

Such glowing sentiment from our close neighbours, and troubled fanatics within.

Reminds me of a song actually..

I have never understood the Scottish fascination with Northern Ireland. On the many occasions I have visited Glasgow, I am always accosted in the bars by complete strangers wanting to know which Old Firm team I support and my opinions on the IRA/UVF. Why do they care about NI?

Oh come on, it's not hard to piece together. There are a plethora of similaraties or connections, that's without discussing a long shared history.

It's a mystery to me too. It's a South West thing mainly. A small amount of people (mainly the more deranged OF fans) see Glasgow as a microcosm of Northern Irish culture due to the amount of historic migration between Ulster and that part of Scotland.

Quite why they think they need to transpose the issues surrounding NI to our country is beyond me. It does nothing but hold Scotland back.

Don't confuse sectarian gimps as the entirety of our relationship across the Irish sea past and present.
