I bought BF2: Special Forces for £20 from a well known high street retailer. They have a 10 day returns guarantee on anything but PC games. I didn't realise this until a friend said I wouldn't be able to take it back. I'm pretty sure my consumer rights overrule this though, anyone know for sure either way?

If you bought it from a high street store then I'm quite sure you have NO statutory right to take it back for a refund, unless it is faulty. Even if it is still sealed. Some shops may offer a refund but they are under no obligation to do so.

Really? That's pretty bad, the game is full of bugs and is a rip off at £20. It's just a few new levels and one or two weapons, hardly worth £20. I played it for about an hour and a half then went back to regular BF2.

Got this from Trading Standards

When are you not entitled to anything?

If you were told of any faults before you bought the goods.
If the fault was obvious and it would have been reasonable to have noticed it on examination before buying.
If you caused any damage yourself.
If you made a mistake, e.g. you don't like the colour, it is the wrong size etc.
If you have changed your mind about the goods, or seen them cheaper elsewhere.

Looks like you have no right to return it.

Agreed it's a useless piece of software.

I think I know which shop your on about, They tried to not give a refund someone on here who bought a faulty x360, untill they read em the trading standard act that was ;)

I think they worry about you knowing the cd key of the game, They will probably think you copied the game if you take it back im afraid.

It's not about the CD key, it's about the fact they can't resell it once it's been opened. But regardless, even if it was still sealed they aren't obligated to give a refund.

Ive had no problems at all with game, they take games back no questions asked. Which is why I buy from them. Sometimes I finish a game before the 14 day period and return it, if its dull.

I'd refrain from naming the chain in question mate, competitor mentioning is frowned upon here :) Edit quickly.

I spoke to a friend who works for the "chain" in question the other day. He told me that it is now possible to swap PC games, but no refunds.
Anything else that takes your fancy in the world of PC gaming? :D

They will exchange a pc title like for like but not refund or change titles.

this wasn't always the case though

I have mentioned to a store manager locally that I have been shopping at game since it was eb/future zone and had never been made aware that the 10 day returns guarentee had changed regarding pc software? and that if they checked my purchases (using the loyalty card) they would see I'm a legit customer.

They allowed me to exchange the title.. It might be worth asking.

EDIT - I didn't think they are actually considered a competitor are they? going by all the talk of them around the x360 launch.

You're not entitled to anything. The fact that you don't like the game is unfortunately irrelevant. Unless it's faulty then you don't have any legal right to return it. By all means speak to them and there is maybe a vague possibility that they will decide to let you exchange it.

I'm not 100% sure myself, although to avoid action it would probably be best to just not mention their name.

No I saw on here that the mods where saying that game isn't a competitor, in a big thread on not using sly ways of hinting at competitors. They said game doesnt stock anything really that competes with Ocuk.

Even when you order on line from game you get a slip for 14 day no quibble returns, so i dont see the problem. It even says you can return the game to any store.

from the website :

Any software (with the exception of those items noted below) may be returned for refund or exchange within 10 days of the despatch date.

Merchandise must be in the original box or package with all accessories and manuals in saleable condition with proof of purchase. We reserve the right to restrict returns to unopened or defective products at our discretion.

Defective merchandise will be replaced with a like item, upon return of the defective merchandise.

We will issue a full credit via your payment method for the price of any item you return that meets the above conditions.

This does not affect your statutory rights

Just looked at the returns policy when buying online from my reciept and you can return anything within 10 days, opened or not.

they take back games no problems,

just go back and say it keeps crashing on your pc, they end up sending it back to the manufacturer where it belongs imho.

I bought it online, wouldnt install correctly via their downloader, so i then paid another 20 for it in the shops an found i didnt really like it. I havent returned it as i am sure i will get back into playing it with the [DW] guys soon enough.

Remember when EB used to offer 30 day money back on all games including PC ones?
Remember when this shop in question used to offer 15 day money back, no questions asked refunds?
I actually returned two games under that policy because they were rubbish.

*Sigh* - Those were the days, before people started thinking only of themselves.
Que the selfish ones who would buy a game, copy it, return it, rinse and repeat.
Then guess what happened? We all lost the ability to return games.

Don't you just love the selfish people of the world and how they ruin thngs for everyone else?
Sorry - just reminiscing...
