I really want to buy a new 5850 or even 6950 graphics card and it would be far more affordable if I could reclaim my £60 I wasted yesterday on an OCZ 600w stealthextreme PSU I don't need. I bought it from a well known large chain of computer shops. The woman did say it can't be returned if opened. I did open it to test it for a few seconds only then packed it back up. The bubble wrap envelope around the unit is gone, there was no choice but to rip it off as they had stuck it down with sellotape, and the box was also originally shrinkwrapped. So my question is, do you think there's any good excuse I can use to get a refund?

Just let them know it wasn't needed. If you have been told you can be given a refund, then everything should be fine.

Doesnt the distance selling regulation allow returning if opened products? You might want to check up in that. Provided you let the vendor know within 7 days you should get a refund eventually, I think.

Lol, I could smash it up a bit but it will undoubtedly backfire on me and I'll end up stuck with a dented or broken PSU.

Only applies to internet sales or where buyer can't inspect the product apparently?

I wasn't told I can get a refund if it wasn't needed, only if it was unopened. I could be honest with them and say it's not needed but I don't think they'll care. I think I need something else to tell them.

Yeah, I was thinking of doing that. Just say it won't power up? That could work.

I apologise for sounding so devious, it's not good form I know. But I could really do with getting my money back in order to buy a new GFX from OCuK between £120 and £180. My XFX Pro PSU works fine and I was only trying to find out why my PC wouldn't boot the other day. And it wasn't the PSU.

Also, what do you think about this idea. That I bought it for my nephew and then he found out his computer needs something that the psu doesn't have, like a particular connector or extra connector. Is there anything in this spec you can think of where someone might need something it doesn't have?

80+ Certified
600W Connectors
20+4-pin ATX
4+4-pin CPU
6-pin PCI-E
6+2-pin PCI-E
5 x Peripheral
1 x Floppy
3 x SATA

Could say something like you didn't know he had SLI/Xfire and the PSU is not powerful enough ... or something?

It's only got one 8-pin CPU connector, so just say it was bought for a server, which you hadn't realised had a dual-socket motherboard. Easy.

Lol, well that was so easy, I got my refund in 2 minutes. :D Very smiley young girl didn't even question it after I said my nephew couldn't get it to power up. She only half opened the lid for a split second peek then closed it, didn't even inspect it properly. Thanks for the suggestions guys. ;) Now I can buy the Sapphire 5850 or more likely the HIS 6950.
