Returning faulty charger...

Today I find that my charger cable has split near the magnetic end. Contacted AppleCare and they're sending out a replacement. I didn't think to ask on the phone, but how do I go about returning the faulty one? Can I just box it up and ship it with the delivery company that delivers the new one?

Edit: Never mind, just received an email telling me that they provide details with the replacement they send out.

Chances are they won't want it back.

HP even sent me a whole new printer once and did not want the old one back.

Costs the companies too much money to collect and dispose it.

If I don't return it they can charger my card for it. The chap on the phone made that perfectly clear by verifying my bank details and telling me I could be charged something like £49. Which is understandable, especially if people are going to return items to them that don't actually have a fault. People could return chargers and the charger would be fine and it's actually a faulty battery and so on.

Same thing has happened to mine (if I weren't so lazy I'd take a photo :p) didn't think of phoning AppleCare instead of popping in to an actual store!

Nearest Apple store is 50 miles from me  and I'm never down that neck of the woods.

My charger still works. But the split is obviously a fire hazard. I can see them trying to worm the fee out of me because the charger still works, but I'll be damned if they do. There's enough on the internet about them replacing chargers and cables because of frayed cords.

What is it for? I have a 2008 (?) macbook that has one of the T chargers and it get, ummm, rather warm shall we say, when charging - is this right? I read somewhere that Apple were replacing all the T ones?

They did replace the T chargers because of a class action lawsuit about "stress relief". What they meant was fraying. Which is exactly what my L shaped one did.

Exact same point of failure as the T chargers. And googling around the problem hasn't been resolved with L chargers.

My replacement arrived this morning though. That's a replacement by phone less than 24 hours after my call. Not bad at all. And the chap on the phone was no-nonsense "what's wrong? frayed? right we'll send out another." Now we just wait and see if they try and worm the money out of me for it once I return the frayed unit.

They fray in the same place. It's silly because this year my charger lead is always pointing outwards and away from the laptop, and hence the cable is constantly being bent at a right angle, causing wear on the outer insulation.

Can I still get my T charger replaced or has that scheme finished now?

I think it finished in March and was only for those in the US. But they replaced plenty in the UK too from what I remember on the discussion boards.

It's just a shame that they didn't resolve the issue as people continually post they're on second or third chargers with the same fault. Fraying.
