Hello all,i need your advice and possibly your help ;). I brought a Dell 2407Wfp of a well known auction site ;), a couple of months ago. (around nov 20th+).

However due to certain circumstances, such as my exams and my lack of work, my dad has now confiscated it and said that I cannot use it til my exams are over til June :(

Is there any way I can return it to Dell? It has a 5yr warrenty.

On what grounds could I replace it? The stand is a bit wobbly on mine and the dvd quality is shi'ite.

However my dad wishes to get a Dell 3007WFP himself. Can I persuade Dell to upgrade for me or are they going to refuse.

I would appreciate a quick answer as my dad is going to be putting it in a Cold cold loft  , my poor poor flawed baby :p

Cheers people

No service tag on ones from auction sites. IIRC you have to go through your seller for refunds/replacements.

It's a bit late to be returning it for a refund, and of course you couldn't get a refund from Dell cause you didn't buy it from Dell, and for that reason I don't think they would go down the upgrade route either. I'm sure your seller is going to say 'how come you've only noticed these problems after 3 months?'. He may be willing to organize a swap out due to the wobbly stand though, assuming they're not all like that.

DVD playback isn't great on any TFT PC monitor since they bring out any noise that might be present. It's partly due to software playback as well. For instance on my 2007WFP, DVDs look worse through WinDVD on my PC than through my 360 on the same screen. ffdshow (using the NR and sharpen filters) may well be able to sort out DVD playback for you.

cheers I understand.

When I got the monitor it came from dell? Is that normal.

I hope the seller wont mind.

I live in ireland atm and Dell are based here. Maybe I could send it back in the auction mans name and they will send an ugrade for a price.

:(

Even from auction sites, the screens often still come direct from Dell (mine did). I bought my 2007WFP the same way and my seller told me that as long as he is registered with Dell as a reseller, Dell won't deal with me and refunds/replacements would have to go through him (I email him, he phones Dell). A quick point of interest - he also said that should he stop being a registered Dell reseller at some point, the warranty would then be honoured by Dell and go through them.

By all means try though, but remember you haven't paid any money to Dell, so they're not going to feel obligated beyond the terms of the warranty they provide.

If you want a refund I think you would have to go through your reseller, and I think he's going to be pretty reluctant since you've owned the screen for 3 months and he can't sell it again as new. It doesn't hurt to try though, the very worse thing that will happen is he'll say no.

If you want the screen replacing due to wobbly stand, you should have more luck there, and if you use ffdshow to sort out your DVD playback, then you've no more problems apart from your Dad and your exams :)

Ah, when you said [name of particular auction site] I just assumed you meant a new screen from a Dell reseller. Did you buy it used then from someone who bought it from Dell through retail?

edit:nevermind, I see from your above post it is from a registered Dell reseller.

2nd edit:Is the receipt definitely from Dell and does it have your name and address on it? You might want to email your seller and clarify who the warranty is through. I know the warranty is with Dell, but it's a case of whether the warranty is actioned by the seller or by Dell.

The listing for my screen said basically the same as yours, full warranty with Dell, but when I questioned the seller more closely, it turns out the warranty is with Dell but through the seller.

so is he a reseller. Im not sure. All I know is that I got a delivery from dell who gave me a monitor with a reciept attached.

I contact him now and post details when I get them.

Thanks very much for your help. Hopefully I will be able to give it back to dell.

I thought my 5yr warrenty would cover that.

cheers

5yr warranty just means you're guaranteed a satisfactory working screen for 5 yrs, it doesn't mean they will give you a refund at any point during the 5 yrs.

The warranty doesn't affect your statutory rights though. If the screen is unsatisfactory you may well be still entitled to a refund even after 3 months. You would need to speak to someone who knew consumer law to find out, like Trading Standards, or you might find the answer online somewhere. Being entitled to a refund doesn't mean you will get one though.

Worst case scenario, you could always sell the screen. Probably get £400+ for it.

Sorry to hijack but I thought these screens were supposed to be good for DVD playback? Whats the problem with it?

Cheers.

I can't imagine you'll get anywhere attempting to return it simply because your dad won't let you use it at the moment.

If it is actually faulty then the best you can hope for is a repair or replacement with exactly the same model.

emailed him, will await reply. here is the link to the actual item.

Type this "270047514971" into well known auction site ;) where it has a nice bright 4 letter logo beginning by a your.

Its not just that my dad wont let me use it. There have been a number of issues that I have ignored but now that this has happened I would like it replaced.

The dvd quality is SERIOUSLY crap. I mean I was watching tears of the sun (bruce willis) on Powerdvd **(Latest version got demo, tried on loads of different ones). The quality of the dvd was so poor it was like watching the worst pirate movie in the world (it wasnt). There was a bit when a helicopter rises into the sky which is really bright. The sky was individual wavering blocks of color. All films look absolutly terrible, and HD content (from microsoft), you look at it and say whats the difference? it was grainy and poor poor quality. My monitor IS a REVa03.

hopes this helps ;)

ive been having really bad luck with stuff lately. :(

Brought some stuff from overclockers that came here battered to **** and back. (Case was scratced to ****, Speakers had dents in it).

:( *feels sorry for himself*

On the bright side they said they would collect it, though I am wary that they will play funny buggers. How much of the original packaging do I need. I have all the essential things like manuals, screws etc. Dont know where the piece of plastic that covered one of the small satellites is though
