After reinstalling games like Guild Wars on my laptop, I've been considering going back to PC Gaming.

My old Rig was pretty sweet back in 2011 but I sold it to buy a car so I'd need the whole rig, case, keyboard, monitor etc.

Budget will be about £900 as it'll be done via finance, I've not really kept up with the latest computer tech for about 18 months so I'd need some help on a build.

Games to be played, probably skyrim with a ton of mods, Guild Wars 2. And future releases, I have xbox one but I'd rather play any single player game on the PC if it looks better.

No monitor anymore, it was either keep my old set up and no job, or sell it for a car ha.

I have a headset for xbox one so it'll work with the PC.

What if the keyboard/mouse and headset were taken out of that quote, would I be able to get the new CPU (ive noticed theres not a huge jump from a 2500k to the new one?) also how good will that mobo be for overclocking?

Keyboard/mouse/headset out, new i5-K and mechanical drive in.

It's a budget overclocking mobo but the onus these days is on the CPU itself for overclocking. The more expensive mobos with more phases and better MOSFET heatsinks would allow you to eke out a little extra.

The newer i5-K runs cooler. I think a fair bet would be 4.2-4.4GHz with that mobo.

You could switch the direction of the fans at the top of the case to intake, to help cool the mobo if necessary.

If you want a better chance of going higher than 4.2-4.4GHz (it's not an exact science given the chip lottery but that's my rough estimate) then get a better motherboard and slightly better cooler. Just remember it'll depend greatly on the chip itself and whether you land a good or average one.

Yeah I went through 3 i5 2500K's trying to find one and I just stuck at 4.6, I think it hit 4.8 but it wasn't 100% stable, other chips were 4.1-3.

I'll see what the missus says about the finance later, shouldn't be a problem, it was either this or a 4k tv
