Don't ask why but I have the urge to revisit my teenage love of skateboarding
I'm in my 40s now and feel a bit daft about it but there you go

Am I alone in wanting to get back on the maple ?
Am I going to die?
Will it be fun?

I took the plunge and ordered this over the weekend (never able to afford this brand when I was a kid), along with some 56mm 78a Ricta clouds and ABEC 7 bearings.

I used to love skateboarding, and I pretty much lived on one during the late 80s and early 90s (thankyou Back to the Future)

I was pretty good too and I could hold my own on the BMX ramps in my town. I also had a Santa Cruz board (The slasher I think?)/

My son has just shown an interest in it, and I gotta tell you.....I am still pretty good on it. It seems that like a bike, you never forget.

Whether I would go down a halfpipe on it like I used to do back in the day.....well maybe not.

yeah I'm not interested in revisiting a halfpipe not at this stage , thinking more just skating along on the street for a bit to see how it goes
hence the super soft wheels I've bought to swap over once it all arrives

No.
Yes.
Yes!!

I inherited a couple of boards back in the early 80s and always wanted to be a skateboarder... Unfortunately I'm quite cack-handed, cack-footed, easily overballanced and as uncordinated as a pregnant yak.
I do enjoy watching decent skaters, though - It always looked to be the most skilled of the street actions sports. Used to be highly entertaining sat outside a London cafe in the summer evenings, watching the various groups practice stunts and build their skills!!

So you as a grown man want other grown men to lie to you so your feelings don't get hurt and then you'll stick around? Ok, blossom...
No need to lie about it - Just wish him all the best and hope he succeeds.
Like all these sorts of things - If he pulls it off, he'll be on YouTube in a Like A Boss compilation... and if he doesn't, he'll be in the Ultimate Fails one.

It's that Jedi thing - Do, or do not. There is no Lie! :D

I used to skate in the early 90s (and was quite good if I do say so myself). Last year my girlfriend bought me a Santa Cruz Jason Jesse deck which is currently adorning the wall of my mancave but every time I walk past it I get the hankering to skate again. I've recently found out that my local indoor skatepark has an "big kids club" which is for blokes like me in their 40s who want to give it a go again. I'll have to pop along sometime.

I have some sympathy with the OP. I'm also in my 40's and late last year, for some reason, I had the urge to revisit one of my childhood toys: the Rubik's Cube. I think I'm reaching "that phase" in life.

(I also had skateboards in my teens, including a Vision Psycho Stick and Santa Cruz Slasher. I think I'll stick to twisty puzzles now though. :) )

As most people, I used to skate when I was young, but picked it up again 2 years ago. Around these parts where I live, it's common to see anyone in any age bracket to be on one (admittedly, longboards are most popular), so don't let the 'don't want to look like an old fart' put you off.

I don't do tricks at all, only carve really, and join the kids at the local bowls pretending to sidewalk surf - having loads of fun doing it. I have two - one my girls usually ride (old school shape) and a Surfskate that I usually ride. Actually finding it super hard to ride a normal board now that I'm used to the surf skate.
(about 36s in he actually starts riding the thing)

I know a guy in his 40s still has a long board and he goes out on his. Sometimes gives his kid a lift in it. He goes to the local skate park also.
