Its been around 8 years since I last built my own PC & seeing as my laptop struggles with the latest edition of Football Manager & this generation of consoles about to end, its good timing.

Budget is around the 450-550 mark, the cheaper I can get it the better. Monitor, Mouse & Keyboard are sorted. Windows 7 (64bit) is needed.

Its moved on a lot since I last bought anything, I've had a look and put a package together, suggestions/alterations are welcome as I feel I'm way off the pace (I remember when MMX Technology was the next big thing).

Gaming wise its to run Football Manager, Total War series, Civ5 and possibly Skyrim. Unsure on motherboard, how much RAM is needed & what size PSU is needed

HIS HD 7850 IceQ X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H785QN2G2M) with Tomb Raider & Bioshock PC Games £161.99

AMD Bulldozer FX-6 Six Core 6100 Black Edition 3.30Ghz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99

Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £71.99

Cooler Master Elite 372 Midi Tower Case - Black £34.99

Suggestions welcome, it really has been awhile...

Thanks, although am I missing something with the Intel over AMD?

Cheaper and faster lol.

You might need to add another £50 onto the budget, I suggest avoiding an i5 for now as an i3 3220 is MORE than capable along side a 2gb 7850.

If you just prepare for the i5 the now and drop it at the end of the year and sell on the 3220, I think you would be better off since the i5's should drop in price due to the new chips.

A case is personal preference, pick one you like within budget.

With the above setup all you have to do is drop an i5 (if you wish) and an SSD later and you are pretty much safe gaming wise for 2+ years. Currently as it is, an i5 is not required to play games, sure you can squeeze some extra frames and the loading times are a little faster but honestly, runs smooth enough.

I play BF3, Skyrim and many others on Ultra settings on 1080p, the odd game requires some toning down like shadows/MSAA but still, damn good for the money.

Slightly confused over your reccomendation Zak. Why have a discrete GPU with Trinity when its whole points is the IGP?

Both builds are pretty pointless, only reason to get a 5800k is for the built in graphics, an i3 3220 is faster and 1gb cards are pretty meh, really no reason to not to spend a little extra and get a 2gb card.
