Reusing windows OS disc query

Ok heres the setup at the moment

PC has windows 7 home premium 64
Laptop has windows Vista 64

I have the Windows 7 Home Premium discs , full version NOT oem
Ive just got a windows 7 professional upgrade disc.

Can i use the upgrade disc on my pc to upgrade to Professional and resuse the Windows 7 Home Premium disc on my laptop. So i'll end up with the PC having Win 7 Pro and the laptop Win 7 Home Premium.

Ive just had a lengthy talk with someone at MS in their call centre who i thing just got the wrong end of the stick, he said its ok but the way he explained it to me didnt perfectly fit what i want to do. Unless i misunderstood him!

Anyway, theres the question.

Is Vista OEM or retail?

I thought you couldn't upgrade from Home to Pro? Only Business to Pro (7) and Home to Home (7)

The Vista, no idea, oem probably, but thats going to be formatted and i'll use the Windows 7 Home Premium install on that since its a fill version.

If it's OEM then no you can't, unless you have a retail XP licence hanging around.

but the Vista isnt going to be upgraded, im formatting that machine and installing the home premium disc on it. The Pro upgrade worked fine btw, did it in 10 mins so not sure what it upgraded! but ive all the new bits in the start bar so it worked.

So ive now got Win 7 Pro in my PC

My laptop has a version of Vista on it that i will be removing, ill just format the HD, and then using the Win 7 Home premium (full version not oem) disc that used to be on my PC to install on that. I hope!

You need a valid Windows qualifying product for your PC.
