Hey guys,

I've just started streaming on twitch.tv

I am wondering if any of you guys have a good idea to start to get followers?

My username on twitch is ReV0h.

Cheers

Find another streamer who plays the games you do, send donation to them asking for a shout out, May take a few times doing it.

Also upload your vids to youtube just incase someone stumbles over your vids.

Sweet. Cheers bud.

Someone told me to try posting about it on a few gaming websites, but i don't know if i'm actually allowed to link it :P

If you're not making any money out of it, sure.

I mean you told us your username, that's essentially the link :p

this is the million dollar (follower) question xD I've not had the most success when streaming but what;s said here is good. try and find someone streaming the same game and see if you can play with them, get active in their chat :)

I started on world of tanks and made a few pals on there and played with them and we all streamed at the same time. when new people would enter the channel we'd get chatting with them and try to keep chat active, then let people know others are streaming and link them up and politely ask them to follow them too. so bouncing viewers back and forth. try and make friends with people who have a decent viewer base and hope for shout outs, say towards the end of their cast they can give you a shout and link everyone up and ask them to go watch you as they are going offline :)

All depends on the games you play really some games are really popular, others.... no one gives a ****! Can be tricky as more often than not if there's a few streamers showing the same game (WoW LoL and SC the biggest) viewers will go for streams already with lots of views... leaving us who only have a few viewers to get stuck on just a few viewers. xD

Something I've noticed pick up more and more is there is an increase in streamers giving away prizes be it ingame items or actual bit of tech. Usually something along the lines of "Give away at xxx followers". gets people to watch and follow for the chance of goodies.... everyone loves goodies xD

Like last night I streamed Grid2 for about 2 hours and only 2 people showed up xD and one of those was a clan mate haha! (Damn BF4alpha and its NDA...I could have had thousands!!!!!)

can't really think of any other tips (if you can call what i said that :p ) for now so wishing you the best of luck :D

oh yea....one more.... try to stream in 720p min :) no one wants to see a mess of blocky pixels xD

Its mainly about keeping what followers you have interested. Make your stream exciting, have a webcam/microphone so you can talk to the viewers and commentate on what your doing, overlay if relevant, participate in the chat... spread your link around on social networks. Music on in the background blah blah...

To generally increase the amount of people you could always (as said above) give away game codes etc... sure it costs a bit of money, but say you'll give away a game at 1000 followers or something...

All these make it more interesting for the viewer.

The problem with my stream is that I can't commentate over the top of me playing SCII as it requires too much concentration ^^

will be hard to make a dent as there are way too many blizzard game streams as it is far too many in fact

Be different I guess and not just play the blizzard stuff

Am I the only one who has no interest in watching random people play computer games? I just don't get it.

haha xD one of the streams I watch most are these few guys who do runs of all the metal gear solid games (all titles). I love the story line and can never get enough. they are quite funny streamers and either do indepth story runs so all cut scenes, easter eggs, hidden cinematics, audio logs, mission briefings etc etc etc,

or they do speed runs or "BIG BOSS"/difficulty runs which are things like game on hardest difficulty, under 5 hours, no continues, game over on spotted, no kills etc etc.

I just love it xD was saying to my clan last night I think I have an unhealthy obsession with the games. personally when I play them..... i'm **** at them, still gotta complete mgs4, the latest one and with the 2 on the horizon....haha xD so it's nice to watch someone do the characters and game mechanics justice by being awesome at it.

they do full chronological order marathon streams for charity too.... a full story run of all the games with story (cinematics and codec messages) takes around 50 hours!!!! and they just keep going..l. think the last one they did it twice back to back and ended on about 120/130 hours or something xD was insane!!!!!!!

but yea.... maybe I'm just crazy :)

It's also a nice was to see some play of a game if you're thinking of buying it, or want some nostalgia and re live some memories if you can;t get hold of a game/can't afford it atm :)

also been watching the ESL games on CS:GO, quite nice to see tactics and the skill some players have.... and then I play and can't hit ****! :p

I just don't get it.

Its just a form of entertainment that's growing pretty rapidly. A lot of streamers make a full-time living from it, much like big you tube personalities etc.

There are some very entertaining streamers if you have a proper look around on Twitch.

As for answering the OP's question, Its all about social networking, also having a cam and a mic while streaming helps a lot to.

Just think of it as watching soccer on the TV... essentially the same thing... only soccer is full of pansies falling over a lot.

I feel the same. I don't get a lot of time to play games myself so why on earth would I want to watch someone else play them?

I don't see the appeal.

^This

I used to get asked a lot by my girlfriend why I'd have a stream open on my second monitor while i was playing around in something else and I'd just explain to her it's the equivalent of watching your favourite sport on the tv.
I play a lot of league of legends (and recently started back up to Path of Exile) so there's a lot of downtime between matches or while grinding where i can just watch a streamer.

My advice would try to be as entertaining and informative as possible when streaming, explaining whats happening on screen etc.

Also its not just about the games, some streamers are just like TV or Raido presenters with the quality of entertainment they produce, the only difference is they are playing a game while they do it.
