Reversing Ring / Macro Coupler:

I have a set of Kenko extension rings which I have used with my Tammy 28-75 Lens, but find that I have to get very close to the subject sometimes, which doesnt work well for insects etc....

If i used a reversing ring with the lens, what sort of results would I get and how close would I need to be?

I have noticed a couple of Fly shots taken with a stock canon lens 18-55 with a reversing ring and they were very impressive

Any info appreciated

Also how usefull are macro couplers?

i.e. could i use my 10-20mm at 20mm using a coupler with the tammy?

What would be the results there?

Hi, i have a reversing ring for my canon 10D, i get best results with my 35-80mm canon lens, The bad points about this are you have to get extremely close to your subject to focus on it, and you have a very tight DOF. However, get it right and the results are rewarding. Here's a couple of examples, both 100% crops....

For a 100% crop they're amazingly sharp - nice job. @OP - yeah I've been curious about this as well but figured that I'll just save my ping and get the Nikkor 60mm Micro.

Hi,

How close were you to your subject for those shots?

about 1-2 cm away, i was very suprised the fly never flew away, i just moved very slow.

wow, stunning shots wez130

Thanks, it is one of my favourite shots.

Thanks, i'll try and dig out the full size shot, i have it on disc somewhere, they have had some sharpening in photoshop, though it was a couple of years ago, can't remember how it came out from the camera - i'll have a look.

Great shots. What f-stop did you use or doesn't this mean anything when the lens is reversed>? I assume you used flash?

I had a play with my manual 50mm and extension tubes last night - just taking photos of a board pin and WOW you get some detail! BUT what a frustrating experience trying to get the thing within the DOF! :D In the end I was moving the subject rather than the camera!
