My E46 320 reversing sensors seem all of a sudden started to act themselves, they are either on all the time or beep when I put into reverse even if nothing is behind me, ive checked to see if there was any crud on the sensors but cant see anything any ideas?

It will be one sensor has failed/is failing. Stick the car in reverse (engine not on obviously), and go stick your ear right next to each sensor and listen for them clicking/ticking.

As above. They quite often fail due to water getting inside them.

Once you find out which one is failing (i.e. the one which isn't clicking), you can replace them fairly cheaply and easily just by taking off the black bumper insert and unplugging.

Could have a film of dirt on them too. Mine did the same a few times but a quick wipe with a cloth sorted it.

Cheers for the reponses guys, on closer inspection ive just spotted something like clear glue on the edge of one of them, god knows what that is or how it got there, but its stopped doing it for now so maybe that was it, if not the cheers for the pointers to find out which one is failing :)
