Hey guys,

So after taking my iPhone 4 into apple, they performed a hard reset in store. I didnt realise until I was messing around today, that this has obviously updated the software to 4.0.2, which is now no good for me, as I need to jailbreak this, to change my sim card across.

Could anyone fill me in on how I can revert this back to 4.0.1? I have seen it mentioned, but cant seem to find a direct walkthrough on how to do this. As this is something I would rather not mess up.

Thanks!

I can confirm you can use alternate IPSW files, but doesn't 4.0.2 update the baseband?

Certain firmwares update the modem firmware, so even when you revert to older device firmware the modem firmware won't downgrade.

I'm not sure if 4.0.2 does this, but it's generally why they tell people not to update until the next unlock is out etc.

Oh OK, and if the modem firmware is upgraded, then you cant jailbreak?

Looking at it, my modem firmware is 01.59.00, which I think is jailbreakable?

Ive downloaded the older firmware, so do I now just plug into itunes, hold shift and press restore, and then it will give me an option of using the older firmware, somewhere, right?

Also once I have done this, will I then be able to use my backup of my phone currently, and put it back onto the phone? Even though it is currently using 0.2, and ill be going back to 0.1?

Sorry for the all the questions, and thanks for all the help!

OK so now Im getting majorly confused. Ive never even heard of SHSH blogs before? So, I dont have these saved, seeing as I didnt even know what they were. So because I havent got them saved, this means I cant jailbreak my phone successfully now??

When it was previously jailbroken did you click Make my life easier within Cydia?

If not you're pretty much out of luck :(.

It says that is for the 3GS, I have the 4. Although, either way, I wont have the bootrom so I guess its pointless.

They never mentioned this SHSH stuff on iClarified, so im glad someone mentioned it, otherwise I was about to go ahead with it.

Until something happens, Im pretty much stuck with an Iphone 4 paperweight, as I cant use it over here! Rubbish!

You just need to be patient for a couple of weeks until 4.1 is out, then they'll release the new jailbreak.

Thanks for all the help guys,

However I got it sorted another way, I was having problems with the proximity sensor on the phone anyways, so took it in and got it replaced for a new one today. I didnt realise however, that the phones from Apple come unlocked. So, now I can use both sim cards without a problem. No jailbreak required! :D
