Review a £999 setup for me please?

Why not go SB?
What is SB?

I want the PC for gaming, but I also do a lot of work in photoshop.

Will the slower RAM still allow for a good overclock? My current setup is limited because i didn't get memory that will clock fast enough for the CPU.

Intel Sandy Bridge - it's the way forward at the moment!

is it though? the processors seem to cost more for the same clock speed with less cores... what's good about them?
sandybridge processors can do a huge amount more work per clock than intel processors. check out this benchmark:

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/203?vs=288

as you can see the i5 2500k obliterates the 1100T, despite having two less cores and identical clock speeds. the 2500k will also overclock far higher than the 1100T. even if games could use all 6 cores of the 1100T (which they cant, usually they can use 3) the sandybridge would be faster.

heres what i;d go for if you had £1k for a gaming rig:

Total : £1,014.78 (includes shipping : £19.10).

you already know about the processor being way better

graphics card is WAY better: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/296?vs=293
the 6770 is a rebadged 5770: http://www.anandtech.com/show/4296/amds-radeon-hd-6770-radeon-hd-6750-the-retail-radeon-5700-rebadge
the PSU and motherboard can still cope with crossfire/SLI

case is better with a window, cable tidy options and a fan controller included

blu ray drive comes with the software to play blu ray movies (which would be ~£10 elsewhere)

cooler should be good for a 4.5Ghz overclock.

the RAM is not affected in any way by overclocking. there is also barely any difference between 1600Mhz RAM and 1800Mhz+ RAM (at least nothing worth the £35 price difference) RAM timings make no difference atall to sandybridge processors. i could have saved a few quid with the Gskill or the corsair vengance, but they are quite tall and get in the way of some coolers

speed of processing, have a look round for bench marks/testing.

did you pick the 850w psu for a reason, the 6770 gfx card you chose wouldn't need that much.

with reapers spece could always drop the 6950 to the 6870 to save a bit of money if needed.

ive just noticed that your 26 posts away from getting free shipping. i'd wander around the life section of the forums for a bit until you got to 100 posts, then you'd save ~£23 on my build (VAT is charged on shipping)

thanks for such an excellent comment!

You're welcome. I was about to post but Reaper's got it sorted anway. Oh well, here we go

i'm afraid i would never buy gigabyte or MSI mainboards again, after being let down by both in the past, but that item is pretty much replacable by an ASUS board i presume?

asrock pro3 mobo is around the same price.
but it doesnt do crossfire/SLI (at speeds that wont bottleneck the cards anyway)

if you dont want gigabyte or MSI then your going to have to go for the Asus Z68-V at £132 or the asrock Z68 extreme 4 gen3 at £155 (the non gen3 version is about £245, so it seems silly not to go for the gen3 version at that price

MSI and gigabyte are really leading the way price wise for sandybridge motherboards (except for the Z68 gen3 ones, where asrock is king)
